For DS...trying to choose between these two schools/ROTC's program? Baised or unbiased opinions are all welcomed and needed. Thanks!
@jaglvr - nailed it. TAMU is centered around the Corp. VA Tech just had a different feel. Still both great schools.my nephew went to V Tech but not Corp. My DS is at A&M Galveston in the Corp. A&M really seems to revolve around tge Corp whereas VT has it more of an after thought in my opinion. A&M has almost its own campus of just Corp. Definitely more of a family feel. If wants just university experience then I would say VT. If want more SMC without going Citadel or Norwich, IMHO, A&M.
yes... why i wrote it as “if want more SMC”Small correction -- Va Tech is also a SMC.
To the original poster, I don't know which service you have in mind, but there are some, I think, useful numbers in these slide shows comparing various aspects of all of the SMCs, including of course A&M and Va Tech:
SENIOR MILITARY COLLEGES CONFERENCE 2019
Main Track
- SMC Conference Schedule - Col Ray Rottman
- Air Force 2019 SMC Update - Col Christopher Bennett
- Military Personnel Policy Accession Policy - Stephanie Miller
- NROTC Program Update - CAPT Donald Nisbett
- SAPRO - DoD Way Ahead for Sexual Assault Prevention - Dr Andra Tharp
- U.S. Coast Guard Direct Commission Selected School (DCSS) Program
- United States Army Cadet Command Overview - MG John R. Evans

Ugh...thanks for your input...was this is for the class of 2024?My Dd got accepted at both of these and if she hadn't received the Falcon Scholarship she would gone with TAMU.
We have visited VTech rotc, just 2hrs from us and we found it to be a shambles. Disorganized and not looking Sharp.
We visited TAMU Corps last Veteran's Day and was very impressed...we also visited VT Corps a couple of summers ago and was pretty impressed with the campus...but now attempting to review TAMU and VT Corps of Cadets online...TAMU Corps-overall, seems to have better reviews and more Corp students doing youtube vlogs about their experience as a cadet. Not much from VT Corps. Hopefully, my DS will do an overnighter at both places to get a better view and pray he makes the right decision...My DS visited both. He walked away from VA Tech not impressed. He absolutely loved TAMU. From a parents perspective, the TAMU Corps of Cadets is very impressive. The entire campus seems to be centered around patriotism and the Corp. Va Tech is absolutely beautiful. Brand new barracks, great engineering school. Very different schools. Your DS needs to visit both. Either way - you can't go wrong with either school. Best of luck on the journey!
I say from the outside looking in, you can't understand. From the inside looking out, you can't explain. Texas A&M is the most amazing institution. Traditions, character, love of country and state. I could go on and on. I pray my son goes there, he will be a 4th generation Aggie. He is very comfortable there at age 15. Example, he left me at the Dixie Chicken to finish beer and visit with some friends. He took his friend all over campus to Association of Former Students bldg and meet us at the parking garage. He is not intimidated by the massive size of the campus. He has grown up going there for all sorts of events. I hope he find his visits to the Academies as an opportunity he would like to explore. I'd say with almost 100% certainty that my kid will be an Aggie. That will make this 3rd generation mama very happy. Bonus, we only live 45 minutes away, so we can go to all the football games and see him march in the Fightin Texas Aggie BandHave one kid who is a Hokie (was not in the Corps) and I can say with absolute certainty that the VTCC does NOT compare to the Fightin' Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets. VT is a great school, and she got a great education, great degree, great job upon graduation, but it's just not A&M.
I do like the "Hokie Stone" buildings on campus though!
"Love of country and state" is an understatement. The campus is "massive" but it just feels so much different than all of the similar big schools I've been to. Nothing better than at a football game or when stepping off from the quad when the band plays the first few notes of the Aggie War Hymn. Still makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck.I say from the outside looking in, you can't understand. From the inside looking out, you can't explain. You have to experience to understand. God I can't wait to retire to College Station."Love of country and state" is an understatement.
