Hello all -- the Emerging Leader Scholarship at VTCC is $12k total for out of state and $8k total for in-state students, paid out over 4 years. It is graduated to backload so that you get the most money your senior year. The effect is that between 10%-40% of your room/board is covered. Here's how it works: for out of state - $2k freshman year, $3k sophomore and junior year, $4k senior year. (For in-state it is $1k, $2k, $2k, $3k respectively which I assume is because other in-state aid is available or cost is lower for in-state). Room and Board (using the Major Flex meal plan) was $10,058 this year so you can do the math.
Our DD is NROTC 4 year scholar (out of state) which covers tuition, books ($375 per semester), some fees, uniforms, so really all that is left is room/board - plus keep in mind in doing your math, MIDN4C get $250 per month (paid out in 2-week intervals), 3C - $300, 2C - $350, and 1C - $400. If you apply some portion of the stipend, it narrows the net cost even more. I would recommend having your MID keep some portion for inevitable miscellaneous costs. So between the ELS and the stipend (not including book stipend), she will receive $4k off that room/board cost her first year (net $$6,058 total), rising to $7,200 (or net cost $2,858) the last year.
The Corps has been working to expand the cadets who receive the scholarship and increase the amount so it may go up in the next couple years.
Hope this helps. GO HOKIES!!
