If anyone or anyone’s DS or DD is currently at VT out of state and has NROTC scholarship and has Emerging Leaders Scholarship, can you tell me what the cost per semester comes out to be after NROTC Scholarship and Emerging Leaders is applied? Not sure of difference in R&B between actual cost and what Emerging Leaders covers. Thank you in advance for sharing.

I'm interested in this too..but I think you might get more of a response in the "Publicly and Privately Funded Military Colleges" section.

DS is an OOS NROTC freshman Cadet with the Emerging Leader Scholarship. Unfortunately, I don't have access to his HokieSPA account right now to see what our out of pocket (spelled s t u d e n t l o a n) cost was for this year. If I had to guess I would estimate that we had to cover approximately $2k per semester. I think DS got a VT grant which may have helped as well.

I am curious about the Emerging Leader Scholarship. Did you receive those with the initial Financial Aid award statement received from VT just after being admitted, or was it later?
Just received award statement today and curious if there are other scholarships awarded later in the process.

I spoke with CC personnel this morning and ELS is an independent award that is notified by the CC, not financial aid. She said that info was in the works as we speak.

Also - previous year recipients said they “think it was email notification of ELS in late March”. Hope that helps.

@Seahunt Did your admissions acceptance notification on the guest portal indicate anything about CC? I don't see anything there and am wondering if that is normal.

It did not. Son got a separate letter in the mail yesterday that said welcome to CC if you accept offer of admission.

DD got an email and a letter in the mail regarding VTCC. No word on ELS or any other SS $$ though.

Same here regarding notices we've got - our email says we will know about ELS "no later than" April 15. Hope it's sooner as colleges want commitment decisions (and deposit) by May 1...

Hello all -- the Emerging Leader Scholarship at VTCC is $12k total for out of state and $8k total for in-state students, paid out over 4 years. It is graduated to backload so that you get the most money your senior year. The effect is that between 10%-40% of your room/board is covered. Here's how it works: for out of state - $2k freshman year, $3k sophomore and junior year, $4k senior year. (For in-state it is $1k, $2k, $2k, $3k respectively which I assume is because other in-state aid is available or cost is lower for in-state). Room and Board (using the Major Flex meal plan) was $10,058 this year so you can do the math.

Our DD is NROTC 4 year scholar (out of state) which covers tuition, books ($375 per semester), some fees, uniforms, so really all that is left is room/board - plus keep in mind in doing your math, MIDN4C get $250 per month (paid out in 2-week intervals), 3C - $300, 2C - $350, and 1C - $400. If you apply some portion of the stipend, it narrows the net cost even more. I would recommend having your MID keep some portion for inevitable miscellaneous costs. So between the ELS and the stipend (not including book stipend), she will receive $4k off that room/board cost her first year (net $$6,058 total), rising to $7,200 (or net cost $2,858) the last year.

The Corps has been working to expand the cadets who receive the scholarship and increase the amount so it may go up in the next couple years.

Hope this helps. GO HOKIES!!

We spoke with personnel in the CC office today at VT and were told that every incoming freshman CC member would be offered the ELS as NavyLady64 describes, for 2018-19. What great news and wonderful support from from the program and alumni! Although not officially communicated, they said letters are being prepared as we speak.
