Hello,

My son recently was dq'd from USAFA and West Point because his left eye only corrects to ~ 20/50. His right eye is 20/20 or maybe even 20/15 uncorrected (perfect vision).

The regional commander just sent him an email stating that although he would be competitive, there are other candidates in our congressional district who appear more likely to receive an offer of admission, so he would be holding the medical waiver request at this point. If he does anything to make himself more competitive or if it seems that he would be likely to receive an offer of admission, he would then submit the request.

The local congressman and senator still want to interview him. If he impresses them, and they want to sponsor him, does this weigh in on the admission process or are they completely separate?

Thanks, Pete

Thanks for the reply.

I heard from the DOD-MRB Deputy Director. He was EXTREMELY helpful.

A mistake was made with the AFA and AFROTC, he actually qualifies medically.
For West Point, he is medically DQ'd. He would need a waiver, but he has been told at this time by the regional commander that the request for waiver is being withheld.

For the AFROTC, he qualifies, just needs to be awarded the scholarship.
For the AROTC scholarship he would need a waiver.
