A family member who is still quite young has their heart set on one of the service academies or a ROTC scholarship.
This is their current eye glass prescription and they still have a few years before they would be potentially qualified. The likelihood is that their eye sight might get a little worse in the next couple of years due to the eye maturing.

Is this an automatic vision DQ? Could it be waived in any circumstances? Would it be in their best interest to encourage them to explore other avenues? Are they completely disqualified from any/all military service?
My fear is that this child will focus solely on the Academy and be devastated when the time comes.
