I know on the website it says the worst your eyesight can be is +/- 8.00 diopters. But what is that for? Because my prescription had a measure for "OD/OS Sph" and "OD/OS Cyl". Which category is that 8.0 for? My eye doctor said it might be for BOTH the Sph and Cyl added up but he doesn't know for sure. I will upload my prescription if needed. I was hoping someone who knows these terms/had a child with bad eyesight can help me out. This is possible the only thing holding be back from the academy. Thank you guys! (Here's the link to the medical requirements for the USAFA https://www.academyadmissions.com/admissions/the-application-process/medical-evaluation/#)

For those looking at this thread in the future, I looked in the "Instructions to Candidates Booklet" and the +/- 8 diopters is the SPHERICAL EQUIVALENT.

  • You need to look up recent posts by Hornetguy; he posted updated vision info you need to be aware of if you're considering USAFA.
  • Recommend you call your Region's Admissions Advisers, they should be able to help! Good Luck!
