so i’ve wanted to be an air force/navy pilot for most of my life, but recently i realized i may not meet the vision requirements. in my left eye i can see 20/15 vision, however in my right eye individually i can only see 20/25. when i’m using both eyes i can see 20/20, but i wondered if my right eye vision would be a problem that would prevent me from being able to fly in the military? thank y’all!

Flight exams are conducted in your junior year at USAFA or AFROTC. First, you must be admitted to those programs. Your 20/25 MUST be correctable to 20/20 with glasses :wiggle:

is that with or without glasses?. Pilots have been wearing glasses for years now

As long as your vision is correctable with glasses, and isn't abysmally bad, I wouldn't worry too much.

I have 20/200 vision that corrects to slightly better than 20/20. The academy doc just submitted a waiver and on I went.

Be aware of the color vision requirements too. 1/12 males has a genetic trait that reduces their red-green color vision. The Air Force relaxed their Cone Contrast Test (CCT) requirement a bit a few years ago to match the Navy's and Army's requirements on that particular test so fewer are failing it. But I think the Army and Navy still can use other color vision tests that some who fail even the slightly relaxed CCT standard can pass.

Also, there are other fairly common eye issues besides how clearly you see and color vision that are disqualifying, along with many other non-eye medical issues like some allergies, possibly asthma, irregular heartbeat, seizures, etc.....
