Just like the one made for anyone attending the Citadel next year. I figure why not have one for VMI kids. Anyone attending VMI next year come on in a post whatever you'd like about yourself, just so we can start this introduction phase a little early.

For the record dont start up a facebook group, I heard people took alotta of crap for that.

Are you doing an overnite stay??

Congratulations Kemp!(and excellent advice.)

Haha definitely great advice Kemp. That thought actually never crossed my mind. I can already imagine the outcome. Thanks for the advice though:thumb:. That's great news though. I'm glad to see that I won't be one of the only one's I've come across on the forums to matriculate pending final academic appointment. To answer your question. Yes, I am actually leaving tomorrow after my last class at 1215 to rush to the airport by 1:30 to catch my plane. I'm very excited and cannot wait for tomorrow to come. Are you going to this overnight or a later one? BTW Bruno, I'm not familiar with the way this forum works as towards pictures. Should I make a thread or post them under the Public & Private etc. Picture section?

I was supposed to go to this overnight but somethings came up and i had to get it changed to the one in April.

Gotcha. Well, that's perfectly understandable. I too was on the brink of canceling my overnight due to some "unscheduled academic blockades" (Professor's pop exams). All in all I hope everything goes well and I hope to have pictures up and running over the duration of my stay.

Yes. Facebook = bad.

Just so you know, the night our rats broke out (January 31st), my rat was telling me about how some of her BRs had found the VMI Class of 2013 Facebook group. They were taking down names so they can help welcome them to VMI next year.

It's generally frowned upon to claim to be a member of class that -- to the Corps -- does not yet exist. You aren't a class until after Breakout. Until then, you're a ratmass. The ratmass of 09+3 just became the Class of 2012. They'll be around next year to help train and mold all y'all, the ratmass of 10+3, into the Class of 2013. You aren't there yet, but you'll get there eventually.

Facebook in general can get you into a lot of trouble at any military school, be it VMI or somewhere else. You're allowed to have it as a rat, but there are restrictions. You aren't allowed to use the chat feature, and you aren't allowed to use it to communicate with upperclassmen.

As an upperclassman, you have to be very mindful of what you represent. We've had a number of cadets receive penalties for making inappropriate comments on Facebook. Even if you aren't part of the VMI network, you still represent VMI. Furthermore, this stuff will follow you into the real world. Employers these days love to google job applicants. If they check out your Facebook and find pictures of you drinking underage, it will not bode well for you.

If upperclass cadets try to contact you through Facebook before you matriculate, it's best to just not respond (or to politely tell them you've been advised not to communicate with upperclassmen via Facebook). The only exception to this is if the cadet is a rising First Classman (in this case, Class of 2010). A lot of times they'll go on Facebook to go rat shopping, to find someone from their area or someone with common interests.

Beware of the pitfalls presented by modern technology.

I also have been appointed to the class of 2013. I just sent in my letter of confirmation too so im pretty stoked that I got all that in. But in my appointment letter it said that I was accepted pending completion of my current academic semester ( im a transfer student). I'm a little terrified since my gpa last semester was a 2.64. So do they mean I do exceptionally well on my grades this semester or will they mind if I at least pass all my classes.

They had your last semester GPA when they made the decisionto accept you so I would assume that what they mean is - don't have any radical drop off. So if your current semester zero's out- then you might have some issues. But barring any huge swings I believe you are just fine. Congratulations, and good luck!!
