VMI Army ROTC becomes first program to send a team for Exercise Cambrian Patrol

From VMI Superintendent MG Wins '84

"Exciting news from Virginia Military Institute Army ROTC courtesy of commanding officer of the battalion, COL Joe Hansen:

VMI's “Brecon” Boys from Army ROTC have secured a bronze medal from the Welsh Cambrian Competition. This is a first for Cadet Command and US ROTC. Of the 128 military teams from across the world that started the competition, approximately half dropped out or failed due to inability to make hit times or complete events. We could not be prouder of our cadets here at VMI.

Thank you to CPT Johnson, MSG Martin and SFC Lopez from our Blue Ridge Battalion who spent countless hours training with their team and mentoring them in achieving a huge accomplishment for VMI.

The hosting general in the ceremony speech stated he would like the VMI team to come back and mentioned how impressed he was with their initial performance. He has competed Cambrian three times in his career with some of the best units in the British military – He has achieved only a bronze once and certificates for the other two attempts."
