I would like to know how I stack up at receiving admission into VMI. My GPA is a 3.3 and my SAT scores are above average at a 1300 on the 1600 scale. I do two varsity sports each year and I am captain of the swim team here. I also do Boy scouts and JROTC and have done much community service with my church. I am also a military dependent of an Air Force Brigadier General, if that comes into play in any sort of way.

Good evening. Do not look here...instead look at College Apps for VMI. THey have a GPA-SAT graph. You can see exactly where you fall.

All of the things that you cite are the kind of things VMI is looking for- community involvement, athletics and leadership potential, interest in Military, and reasonable grades. Your GPA is a little lower than average for the current admitted class, but that is an average only. There are no guarantees in life and certainly not in this, but my guess is that you are a reasonably strong candidate who should certainly apply to VMI. The admissions staff are very helpful and if you go on the VMI website you can find an alumnus who will conduct an admissions interview if you have more questions, and for sure you should schedule an overnight visit to really demonstrate your interest and to get a good feel for what life is like as a VMI cadet. Good luck!

Hey Jacob, I got into VMI with a 1200 SAT, and a 3.7 GPA. You also have plenty of EC activities so you should be fine. Good luck!

Hi Jacob. Aside from a slightly lower GPA than top candidates, it looks like you have a pretty good resume. With a parent being an AF BG, it is likely that they know and/or work with a number of VMI alumni over the years. Reach out to them and see if they would be willing to write letter of recommendation as those carry a lot of weight. Best of luck.

i got in this year with a 3.3 and a 29 on ACT and i applied last minute if this helps and your extracurricular activities sound really good imo

On the surface, it appears you have a strong record and your activities/sports will certainly help.
Good Luck!

OP, you won't know for sure until you apply - so do the best you can to prepare and give it a shot. Probably more important, if you haven't already done so, is to visit VMI and learn as much as you can about the lifestyle to make sure it's a good fit. Good luck.
