VMI Class of 2018 Applicants

DD accepted

checked postview and see that our daughter is accepted

Rah Virginia Mil! Whole damn team :)

CONGRATULATIONS to all of you on getting accepted to VMI. My advice to all of you - if you aren't already in shape, start running and doing pushups now, (so that next year at this time you aren't saying: " @$#*!! Bruno never told me that it would be like this- @#$%- why didn't I go to Tech?" ). And if you can do so take advantage of STP- it is a great program that I really wish had been around 38 years ago for me - it certainly helped get my son off to a good academic start- Rat year is pretty demanding on all counts, but you can help yourself by getting one killer class out of the way before you get into the swing of things while learning your way around post and Lexington . Finally- best of luck for the rest of your senior year. Don't go out and go crazy, but do try and enjoy yourself for the next 6 months. Your last couple of months of HS should not be all drudgery:rolleyes:

Congratulations to all of this first bunch of the next Rat Mass- exciting times ahead!!:thumb:

Received my offer of appointment to the Virginia Military Institute Class of 2018! Decisions, decisions...

Congrats Jarhead!

I think my favorite part about VMI is the caliber of person that I know is going there. If you go to a big state school, you're gonna have 30,000 other students there who don't necessarily have high moral, academic, or physical standards. I like that VMI gets the smart, trustworthy, athletic Americans together at one place.

So true Strength! It is indeed no ordinary college! Unfortunately, several other schools on my list are the same way. Makes it hard to choose!

Congrats to those accepted to VMI. If conversing with a current Rat would be helpful PM me. DS will be home 12/19 - 1/11 with access to phone; when he goes back to the Institute it'll be game on until Rat breakout

Congrats all! I highly recommend the "pre-strain summer" as you can earn credits and get physically prepared... get ready for the challenge and adventure!

What a Christmas present!!...DS received his appointment yesterday...we couldn't be prouder. I know a big weight has just been lifted off his shoulders.

kudos

Getting lost in the process

My DS has applied to VMI and applied for an AROTC scholarship. After not receiving an offer following the first board, I was looking on this forum and found that he should stay in contact with the PMS. We live out of state, so my son had his PMS interview with a local college with no "official" contact with VMI. needless to say, we are learning as we go. On my suggestion, my DS emailed the PMS at VMI as well as other places he applied. He received a return email stating that he would be recommended for scholarship. Now, here's my question: could this lack of contact have been one of the things that worked against him on the first board?

Could be, but I don't think it was a huge factor. The first board is just really competitive and nothing can change that. Also, to get the scholarship to VMI, you need to have sent their scholarship/enrollment coordinator a picture of yourself with your height, weight, and other things I can't remember. I also sent Col. Wanovich (PMS) my resume, which I don't think hurt either. Best of luck to your son and hopefully I'll see him there!

DS received large, thick envelope from VMI today! Debated bringing it to his swim meet but decided to put it on the front seat of his car to find after the meet :) Looks like we'll need to plan a visit soon!

Haha my mom purposely left it out in the mailbox, and filmed me getting it! Looking forward to meeting your DS this fall. :thumb:

Strength and Honor, I quickly scimmed this thread, and saw that you have been awarded your ROTC scholarship already. I have already been accepted to VMI but I am waiting on the ROTC letter. How did the ROTC guys notify you when you won the scholarship?

Well it was through the Army, and I got an email from Cadet Command about two weeks after the first board telling me I won the scholarship. I found out it was to VMI a few days after that, and then contacted Colonel Wanovich (PMS) to let him know. I think the second Army board is going on right now.

Appointment

My DS just received his ED appointment letter as a transfer student from U Alabama, Tuscaloosa. Was delayed because all current grades needed to be reviewed . I'm elated, his description was "mad-pumped" . A lot of hard work paid off. Good luck to all and see you in Lexington!
