Hello!

I applied early decision to VMI and just received a letter this week that I have been deferred until I send my transcript from the first semester of my senior year in. What does this mean? I believe my application is strong, the only thing lacking is my GPA.

Thank you!

This is common practice to require first semester transcript of senior year to confirm that your grades are still as per the schools expectation.

Welcome new member of 11 minutes!

Be encouraged by the fact they haven’t said “no, but thank you for applying, and we wish you the best.”

They like what they see - so far - but want to see your performance this first semester before making a final decision, especially if it is indeed your GPA that is lacking. You may be on the knife edge of going one way or another.

Yes, don’t be alarmed or discouraged. Even the Service Academies require 7th semester transcripts to be sent before most appointment offers will be handed out. Finish semester strong and show them what you can do! I think being deferred is not a bad thing at all. It shows they like what they see but somebody wants to get that last transcript before deciding to push them over the edge. Good luck and see you on the Rat Line!

Thank you Everyone! I did not know what to think after I received that letter so I appreciate the replys
