I am a senior in high school in Kansas and it is my dream to attend VMI. My resume right now is as follows:

3.3/3.0 GPA weighted/unweighted
1200 SAT
27 ACT
I will have completed 8 AP courses
I currently hold a lead position at my job
I am a volunteer at my church where I give at least 15 hours a month
I am an all around athlete

I am also able to answer any other questions about myself
Thank you all for your time:)

It looks to me like you are a competitive candidate but nobody can chance you without knowing a whole lot more and knowing what the makeup of applicants will be this year. If you can I would continue to work on the SAT as you seem to be right in the middle on their averages. Look to leadership opportunities and try to do as well as you can in your AP courses.

There are lots of sites on the web with typical student profiles that can help you gauge your chances.

Do you have any leadership positions at school? I know you said you are an athlete, but are you a member of any varsity sports and captain of any teams? You need something in your application that separates you from all of the other candidates with similar credentials.

My DS is currently a RAT at VMI and I would say that your academics look solid. Based on what I have experienced with my son so far is that academics are only 1/3 of what will determine success at VMI. Physical fitness and mental toughness are the other 2 factors. Physical fitness can be measured and there are lots of other posts that you can research to figure out where you need to be with that. Mental toughness is the wildcard and cannot be easily judged and is the factor that can cause academic success or physical fitness to seriously decline if you are not prepared. But to your original question, you look academically qualified.

Completely agree with Caesarbc! Although I’d focus on improving your SAT score in order to compete in VMI’s very competitive selection process, I definitely prepare your body and mind for the rigors of what is arguably the toughest military school in the country!

Good luck if that is where you decide to go. My advice: be ready academically, mentally, and physically!
