VMI New Cadet Oath Day 2 Sep 2018 & the Battle of New Market

For those interested in VMI, its traditions, heritage and history . . .

On 29 August 2018, several VMI upperclassmen took the task to re-enact the 80+ mile march of the VMI Corps of Cadets in May of 1864 to New Market, Virginia where the Corps engaged in that Civil War battle. With them, they carry the shoulder boards for the Rat Mass of 2019+3

On Sunday, 2 September 2018 the upperclassmen completed their march and were met by the Rat Mass 2019+3 where the Rats were introduced to the Battle of New Market history and the VMI Corps of Cadets decisive role in the battle

The Rat Mass then re-enacted the "charge from the center" on the battle field to the Union cannon position

After taking the VMI cadet oath they were pinned with their VMI Cadet shoulder boards. and conducted a march through the Town of New Market, Virginia.

I've been to the battlefield. The position of the guns they assaulted was most impressive and they could only be taken frontally. A great way to get "introduced" to VMI.
