I was researching VMI and came across the "Visit the Post" section of the website. The part that caught my attention the most was the Open House-Overnight Visit portion. Any thoughts or advice on this event. I am currently a junior in high school and on their mailing list. Does this make me eligible for one of these overnight visits? Also, when should I visit? Do you guys recommend a visit as soon as possible because if so I could make it to the one in early December. Or should I wait a while for some reason?

You should go to the one in December or the ones that will be scheduled in September and October of next year. They all are really informative, but the most worthwhile visits will be when the ratline is still in full swing; which you won't see if you go to the spring visits. You ought to know what you are in for rat year- and seeing what the Rats will be going thru is a pretty good way to do that.

when I came in february and asked the 4ths how the ratline was they either said You'll see when you get here or I can't remember, which wasn't too much help. so its a good idea to come during the ratline to get your questions answered. Registration's closed for november so hurry!

Well I just registered online for an overnight visit with my first choice being 3-4 of december and my second choice 18-19 february. Anything I should know before going or will they contact me about the visit telling me everything?

You should get a schedule, but that's probably it. I haven't done an overnight at VMI, however, I did one at Norwich. I wrote up a post on it...so I'll post the link. It may give you some relevant insight.

Basically a LOT of meetings, tours, and spots for questions. They also have demonstrations. You also stay overnight in the dorms with rats. You'll get to see the lot strain, but you'll be called a prestrain and the rats will abuse you so they don't have to strain and take you everywhere. You get to see roll call march in and the parade thing. Good stuff man :D I went in September

VMI overnight

My son went and he said the Rats, they were still Rats during his visit, and he said they told him just what it was really going to be like, and got him to buy them pizza and used him to avoid the strain. The Citadel did not offer overnights and Norwich was a great overnight program too. Much nicer barracks.

End the college selection process, my son states he felt VMI wanted him, the cadets were honest to him about how tough it was and he did not care for how far away Norwich was.

2 months as a Rat he still says he he feels he made the right choice

Anyone know how long it takes the confirmation letter to get to your house? I'm just really excited and I want to get some information as soon as possible. I registered I think 5 days ago. Do they deny anyone from attending?

They don't deny anyone. You'll get the papers like a week or two before the overnight

I got mine 2 days after I registered, but I did it like a month before the date of the open house

The Citadel does offer overnight visits, but you have to be academically accepted to be eligible.
