VMI Rat Mass 2017+3 Appointment Thread

I'm sorry she did not get her first choice, but I am a firm believer that it was for a reason, and it sounds like VMI is a perfect fit. I am so glad you posed the question here as it opened the door to the path she is now on. Good for her and congratulations.

Funny story - we have five kids, all born in less than eight year's time. When they were little I shopped at Goodwill a lot for play clothes - you know, just cheap stuff they could trash & I wasn't worried about ruining.

We had never heard of VMI until this past November....a whirlwind application, appointment and overnight visit....she felt so at home there.

Imagine my surprise when my youngest son pulled out an old hoodie....with the VMI logo on it.

Must have bought it about 10 years ago. Think all five kids wore that. It was just a good hoodie, bought for a buck or two for kids to get muddy in.

We're big believers in signs. That's a good one ;)

My son is currently a 4th class cadet at VMI. Like your daughter his first choice was USNA, however he is now very thankful that he came to VMI. He has loved every minute of his first year at VMI. He believes the education (electrical engineer), military training, and character development at VMI is second to none and would not trade it for anything. Currently he is at the Norfolk Naval Base for spring FTX and having the time of his life. They are staying aboard the USS Bataan (LHD #5) and have been able to tour a destroyer, fast attach submarine and visit Seal Team Eight. I would also like to give a very big "RAH VA Mil" to all the cadets who stayed in Lexington during Spring FTX to work on various community projects! What a great display of character giving back to the community which has so richly embraced our young men and women. So I guess what I'm saying to your daughter is she should be very proud and excited about her appointment to VMI, she is going to have the time of her life. Congratulations and welcome to the VMI family!

God Bless you & your family. Your daughter will never regret the VMI opportunity. We are now done. 4 roller coaster years, graduation on time and a fine young man with a VMI education. Mom and I have come to believe that VMI is the best school in the country.

Ooops, my bad!! Hello Brother Rat Dad!!! My son loved FTX. Said he slept better than in Barracks, enjoyed the MRE's and just enjoyed it. Except the 5 ticks and some random bug bite he needs to have looked at again.

PM when you send the request to the FB page, I'm one of the admins. That way I can watch for it.

Looks like they elected their officers last night. Wonder how long until they get their robes.

Class of 2019 got their bath robes tonight. For those that don't yet know, this is a big deal!

DS is still trying to decide what to do. Still CPR at USNA, so looking like that probably won't happen at this point. Has a Marine option ROTC scholarship in hand thinking of getting it transferred to VMI or Norwich (accepted at both). Would be nice to have the USNA answer now, but not much we can do but wait. He is struggling to decide between VMI and Norwich.
