Do you think we should add whether we're seeking a commission upon graduation?
 
C76706340 — You and everyone are more than welcome to do so, but the way VMI does ROTC, you have to be seeking a commission, except for ARTOC. Everyone at VMI is in the Corps of Caders, and everyone will participate in an ROTC. If you aren’t seeking a commission, you participate in AROTC along with those in AROTC that are seeking a commission. I think it starts to differentiate within AROTC after sophomore year. For instance, I don’t think those not seeking a commission go on the AROTC field exercises. They participate in an VMI organized activity that is usually focused on helping the local community. So ... “stipulation” of “seeking a commission” only really applies to AROTC.

Awesome and welcome to an extraordinary family. Look on Facebook for a VMI Parents page. There are 2 or 3 different ones that are "open". You should find good info there. There is also usually a restricted Facebook page for the parents of each class. (That page when/if created is usually pretty restricted and you have to ask to enter and "prove" you are a parent of a VMI cadet of that particular class.) Usually you can find out if your DS "class" Rat Mass 2019+3 has a page from one of those open pages.

I just began reading. Author is mother of two VMI grads. Appears to be very informative so far. I actually began making quick notes for myself to assist with calendar planning this year

I'm glad you've found it useful. I've also found the "Ask a Rat" threads on these boards invaluable. Even some of the older posts are very insightful, and there is usually someone there to answer questions for the incoming 'rats'. Best of luck to you!

FOR THE PARENTS of those appointed to the VMI Rat Mass of 2019+3 (Class of 2022), the Facebook page for the parents of VMI's newest entering class is active. It is a "closed" Facebook group and you have to ask to join and prove you are a parent of an appointee. We aren't allowed to post the link directly here on the forum, but if you enter VMI Rat Mass 2019+3 Parent Page in the search bar on Facebook, the page where you can ask to join should show up.
