This dog truly loves his tanks. I had him in an M1918 at 5 months old, he was chasing Shermans at 7 months old and climbing through all the tanks. He loves artillery to include fireworks, .50 cal and Howitzers.

Highhopesmom and Pololive5 -- will be curious as to your thoughts after the VMI visit ... Freshmen are now 4th Classmen as opposed to "just Rats" ... Seniors (or "Firsts") are about 7 weeks from graduating ... Juniors (or "Seconds") are ready to assume command. 3rds are 3rds.

VMI speaks to people ... To some it feels right ... To others not so much ... Not too many in between ...

Have a great visit ... Lexington is great little town. For the parents, Main Street Bistro, Southern Inn, Salerno's, or "The Palms" are favorites ...

Thanks Falcon A! Hoping it speaks volumes to our DD, as she waits for a response still from USAFA. It has been a long and difficult wait!
 
Highhopes -- All I can tell you is VMI is no "Plan B" when it comes to academics and preparation for military service. VMI is a tough program, but it prepares its graduates well

USAFA is an awesome opportunity. I'm a USAFA grad. Hard to compete with "free tuition" and the federal funding for the extracurricular at USAFA for soaring, parachuting, powered flight, etc., . . . An USAFA appointment (or an appointment to any SA) is a "lotto ticket" . . . but the quality of the preparation provided by VMI is second to none.

Sorry for the late response all, caught up in moving at the moment. I very much enjoyed the open house, but it doesn't paint the best picture of the Ratline. All the 4th's were broken out and were very quick to say it is far more relaxed now. During the visit you get the opportunity to visit 2 departments, I chose Computer & Information sciences and Electrical & Computer Engineering. I will say that the main visiting day is very long and definitely wears you out. All-in-All it was a fun experience and I would definitely recommend going to an open house to get a feel for the school.

Open house/tour was very informative and successful. It was an all encompassing two days. Everything from walking tour and history to academics and financial aid. My daughter was able to meet the soccer coach and sit in and watch a very organized and fully cohesive existing team practice on Thursday night upon arrival. Friday was a long but very informative day complete with the opportunity to speak one on one with several cadets. I will say it was a big plus to have the visiting kids bunk overnight with the Rats. We have a clearer picture of their way of life as a 4th. Although, I agree it was definitely more relaxed than it probably was a couple months ago. Our take aways: my daughter is 100% in and will gladly take her role in the Rat Line should she not receive a BFE to the SA. As a parent, I will be PROUD to have her attend such an amazing school, the cadets poise and passion are clear and ever present. Listening to the cadet run panels was akin to sitting in a board meeting at my office. These young men and women are most certainly getting a stellar education, I have seen adults who cannot articulate thoughts and ideas half as well as they did. We were very impressed and I highly recommend that if you are on the fence, one visit could change your mind!

I’ve been appointed, got a full ride AFROTC scholarship, I’m majoring in engineering (haven’t decided which specific one yet) and I’m going to VMI for sure. Are there any other social media pages for 2023 rats?

Yes . . .

The forum rules do not allow for posting of FB links, but . . .

Have your parents search for the VMI Rat Mass 2020+3 Parent Page. It is not for you, but it is for them. It is a "closd group" page and they will have to prove to the Admins they are a parent that has a Rat about to enter VMI. There are instructions on the page how to do that. There they can chat in a closed environment and get a lot of good information

Also, to find pages for you, just put "VMI" or "VMI Rat Mass 2020+3" in the FB search bar and there should be several options for you to investigate.

My advice is to NOT have too large of a social media presence regarding VMI. Best to "lurk", read and learn on these pages . . . it is fine to ask questions; however, in the past folks have have extra attention paid to them once they matriculate if they have been too vocal over social media . . . the VMI Upperclassmen will want you to earn the right to be called a VMI Cadet before you start crowing about becoming one . . .
