Yesterday the Rat swearing-in ceremony was conducted at the New Market battlefield followed by a parade thru the town of New Market. Congratulations to the Rat mass of 18+3 ( don't ask about the crazy terminology - it's another old VMI tradition- they aren't a class till breakout). But they have at least made it long enough to get their shoulder boards! One milestone down - a whole bunch still to come!

Love the tradition of this event. Especially the upper Classman that walk the 80 miles from VMI to New Market carrying the Rats shoulder boards. Gives me goosebumps.
