VMI ---> USNA vs staying at VMI

What are the numbers of transfer from VMI and the Citadel to any of the SMCs annually? Restarting the first year can be a waste of time or more confidence?

@SpadGuy it truly depends on the individual. For the past few years, according to published class profiles, just shy of one in three USNA plebes has completed a post-graduate year somewhere, either college or prep school. It's a year to take college courses, adjust academically, and build habits of studying, doing homework, talking to professors and learning how to have professional relationships with them, and generally becoming a successful college student and young adult. Based on what they take in the PG year, some students can validate courses when they arrive at USxA, opening up possibilities to pick up a minor, a research project, or even to begin a Master's before graduating.

I don't know how many SMC students end up matriculating at a SA. In my plebe company, we had a couple of guys from SMCs. They were squared away and nothing about normal plebe hazing fazed them.

Not sure what the numbers are historically, but from talking with my DS, I don't think the numbers that are transferring to an SA out of the Class of 2019 are large -- he was aware of 2 going to WP and maybe 2 going to USNA -- so probably 10 or less?

Have you looked at USMMA? It would allow you to go Navy, or not if you wanted something else, and avoid the $50K per year bill.

I have looked into KP, especially since I'm also interested in the Coast Guard, but I really don't have an interest in working in (or studying) the commercial maritime industry. I know much of Mids time there is spent in that field. Although I do think Marine Engineering is cool, I also don't want to pin myself into basically only one major that I (think) an interested in. Not that I'm knocking KP at all, I have no doubt it is a stellar institution, just not my cup of tea. Ultimately, my main goal is becoming military officer and I happen to want to be a maritime military officer the most, rather than having the primary goal of wanting to be a maritime officer and happening to want to be a maritime military officer....If that makes any sense at all. :p

Makes total sense. I just wanted to share the option in the event you didn't know about it. Best of luck to you.
