there are 2 sides to every story, on the other hand where there is smoke there is fire.
That is really simplistic and especially in a time where anyone's postings on an obscure platform can get copied, forwarded and then people start to believe it.
Not to derail this discussion but one example is that there have been numerous tales floating around the net that John McCain CAUSED
the fire aboard USS Forrestal when he was playing a joke/prank on another pilot and started his engine early (while parked) which
caused another plane's missile to fire.
There is plenty of smoke floating around as I've seen this story show up every so many months but it is FACTUALLY full of holes starting with the fact that the alleged "wet start" jet was an F4 and McCain flew A4's. There is lots of video around of the tragedy and its pretty clear what types
of planes were where. Secondly, the post-disaster investigation was really thorough and its pretty clear that the problem was a technical
equipment issue that resulted in major changes to Naval Ordnance (HERO: Hazard of Electromagnetic Radiation to Ordnance) so that radars
and other high power electronic environments would not trigger our weapons.
Not all Smoke is indicative of a fire, sometimes its just someone's breath on a cold day.
