VP Nomination form no longer available

Probably 10 U.S. Code 7442 which authorizes nominations. If they get rid of the VP nomination process, is it really a VP nomination?

So they go through the motions and the SAs decide.
Personally, I think the SA’s are the best qualified to handle any nom, let alone the VP nom.

Not exactly. I think it's more like only 1-2 nomination slots. Unless the academies nominate people for the VP slot that they don't intend to offer an appointment to.

Additionally, even if you already have a nomination from another source, that MOC slate could be filled by another candidate ahead of you who receives an appointment, making the VP nomination a useful backup for all applicants.

Someone gets it, so check that box when possible. It looks like that ship has sailed, so I wouldn't sweat it at this point.
I’m pretty sure a congressman can have more than 2 constituents at the Academy via the national pool? I have heard that the district Annapolis is physically in has a 100% acceptance rate for nominated applicants because it’s so competitive that even the non-slate winner nominees without non-congressional nominations get appointed through that system.

5 total appointments attributed to the MOC for each academy, which usually translates to 1-2 per year to get to the 5 total at the academy.

Others can answer better than I can about alternative nomination sources or the Annapolis acceptance rate.

A couple of posts above this one has an example of someone who was not appointed but had a VP nom.
Some conjecture here:
If you rank all of the VP Nom applicants by Whole Person Multiple, then work your way down the list, taking out everyone who has
already winning/won their slate you would now have a close parallel to what USMA calls the "National Waiting List". My guess is
that the Whole Person Multiple Scores for the VP nom folks would give most of them appointments with the appointments
charged to "Additional Appointees" like other non-slate winners who get appointments.
Correct. My son was told that he didn’t win his senate or congressional slate and didn’t fall into the top 150 in the national pool. He was given the VP nom since he didn’t win his other slates and they were interested in “finding a spot for him.” The VP slot was obviously filled before he was offered an appointment.

Thankfully USAFA gave him a Falcon Foundation Scholarship and he has spent this year prepping to join the USAFA class of ‘29.

Only one from each congressional slate is “charged” to the moc. The others are charged elsewhere….other nom sources.

That's funny. I didn't catch the mom typo. Broke left hand ring finger and am typing like Tom Brokaw with two fingers, driving me bonkers.

Bar fight again?
Haha! Not this time. Rushed to try to close new to me car door while snow was swirling my skirt and 20 degree weather was chilling me. Managed to shut finger in between dash and the door defrost vent duct (didn’t realize it was a thing). X-rays reveal splint for 8-10 weeks is necessary. So bulky and clunky.

Managed my last BGO write up using voice to text in a Google doc then checked for grammar and context and pasted into BGO portal template. Much less cumbersome than my miserable attempts at typing.

Saving the bar fight for next time.

Ouch.

How do I know if my son completed the VP nom application? He said he did back in October, but we cannot find an email verification that it was done.

There is no email confirmation for the VP nom. We just took a screenshot of the final screen after finishing the app.

Thank you for that information. Do you know how the VP nom works? My son has a MOC nom for AF but still needs a nom for Navy. How will we know if he can get the VP nom for Navy?

The service academies manage the evaluation and selection. No VP staff involvement.

There is no way of knowing anything about it, until it possibly magically appears in his portal.

There are likely only 15 VP noms issued each year from an academy. There can only be 1 ( some years 2) charged to the VP nom. The academy chooses who receives the nom and who is appointed. The VP is not involved in the process. With a solid application and no nomination there is more of a likelihood to receive a preparatory scholarship from USNA than receiving a VP nomination. My DS had 2 noms to WP and was also issued a VP nom. Even after all of that he was not appointed to WP.

Wow, that is crazy that he didn't get an appointment. I just don't think I or my DS realized how difficult it is to get an appointment. I figured being top 10 in his class, an athlete and volunteer would give him a great chance. That does not seem to be the case. Just too many other well-suited students in the US. Is he going to a Prep School?
