My DS has not received his W2 form in the mail and has no idea where to get it. He has asked around and he says everyone is as clueless as him. Where does he get his W2 from?

I told him about mypay.dfas.mil and he had no idea what that was. He evidently never got the temp password to gain access for the first time.

I believe he would just need to create an account and take it from there. Now is never too early.

The only option to create an account requires a temp password that he never received. I told him to ask a c3c - somebody has to know.

Surely there is a Cadet Disbursung or Pay Office.

I believe he can go on the site, enter his SSN to request temp password, then he may reset it once account has been established.

He is in the middle of Recognition and it sounds like he has absolutely no time but I will suggest the Pay Office and the SS#/temp PW.

Thanks for the help.

If you still have difficulty getting logged on...this is from the USAFA website:

CADET & CADET CANDIDATE TAX INFORMATION
Cadet Taxes

Most cadets don’t have many deductions and file an EZ form. The Academy has volunteers that are available on an appointment-only basis to help cadets with their taxes (free of charge) to ensure they have used all the deductions they are entitled to. Income Tax assistance is available through USAFA/JA (located in Harmon Hall, (719) 333-3940). If your cadet (C4Cs) needs proof of attendance for you to claim him or her for part of the year, have your cadet visit the Academy Registrar and request a letter. The letter will be available for pick up from the Registrar’s Office in Fairchild Hall.

He definitely has problems logging on. It says to enter the temporary password "which was provided". I guess he will have to pay a visit to the Harmon Hall office or better yet I will give him the phone number you graciously provided.

If memory serves me right, there's a cadet finance and MPF office in Vandy near the shoppette/barber.

Can we still claim our kids when they are in the Academy or the Prep School?

Many CPA's who are willing to go to bat for their clients have disagreed with the Service Academy interpretation. Even the Service Academies state in their letter its not the IRS's official position.

But it makes sense, since you are not paying your child's living expenses anymore. Why should you be able to claim them when Uncle Same provides them with everything they could ever want or need?:D

I don't think anybody would say the tax code necessarily makes sense.

Congress changed tax code some years ago that raises questions regarding Service Acadamy current interpretations.
