Wait List

Your BGO may know if you're WL'ed before you do. He/she won't know about appointments before you do. Crazy, but true.

It's impossible to know how many WL candidates will ultimately receive appts, because it depends entirely on how many people with appointments ultimately decide to accept -- or not accept -- them.

In some years, 50+ WL candidates have received appointments. Last year, the number was closer to 0. Even USNA has no idea; your BGO definitely has no idea.

Do they handle each geographical area at a time or everyone at once?
Our VVCFF (very very close family friend) just got an email from her regional admissions director stating that they haven't even gotten to her state yet to fill the representative slots, and she is still competing against her representative slate. He said her state was pretty far down on the list.
This seems to indicate that they handle the geographical areas separately. I think they may go thru and fill in the senators slots, then go back and do the representatives, just a guess on that though. Either way, MOC slots for all states are not filled yet, so all BFE's have not been sent out yet :thumb:

Falconchic,
Thank you for the news. We're keeping hope in suspense in CA.

Mom of a USNA 2015 Candidate

cacandidate2015, I think your number of 50 getting in from the wait list was from more than two years ago.
The thing to keep in mind is that there is very little information out there about the wait list, and even less reliable information about the wait list. You will rarely see numbers posted about wait list appointments, and when you do its from a few years ago.
From itel I was able to gather last year, the last two years have been extremely slim, and this year doesn't seem any more promising. Two years ago I heard the number getting appointments off the list was 22 and I wouldn't be surprised at all if last year's was zero like usna1985 said. (I was told by someone last year that if at least ten got in, my son would be one of them.)
Normal waiting is stressful enough, wait list waiting is pure torture.

As difficult and stressful as waiting is, it actually has improved over the last few years. Within the last decade it was not unusual for candidates getting the nod for an offer in mid-June. In just the last 5 years Admissions adopted the April 15 dropdead date for notifying all candidates of their status relative to appointments.
1985 is being absolutely straightforward when she tells you that the BGO is made aware of some status information, but USNA really does protect the MOC on notification of appointments.
Finally, USNA is working on a target range of new mids, and it is in the zone of having to wait for candidates sitting on outstanding fully qualified offers and conditional offers until the last moment. Thus the waitlist. In my day, they called this waiting "character building". Best wishes to those of you still in the hunt.

BTW, have just completed my daily review of the area's roster of candidates, and we actually have as many candidates sitting on offers as we have candidates holding appointments. I take this as support of my last contention regarding a factor in the apparently slow progress towards completing USNA 2015. NOTE: I am not contending this is the only factor, and I am not in favor of pushing offerees into accepting before they are reasonably comfortable with that decision.

1964, I am a bit confused by your wording, but what do you mean exactly? Sorry just a little confused  =/

Re-read my first post, then read my second post. Note that the last comment I made dealt with the fact that Admissions is having to contend with the fact that there are a good number of offers on the table at this time. I later reviewed the Candidate Roster for the Northeast Ohio area and noted that there were NINE offers that had not been acted upon by the candidates, and further noted that the area had as many open offers as there were acceptances AS OF THIS DATE. I realize that this is just one area among dozens, but I suspect it is reasonable to assume that there are many other candidates holding offers, and that handcuffs Admissions to some extent. Again, that is just one factor at play.

Anecdotal Evidence from CVW

Just came back from a CVW and met a surprisingly large number of candidates with unaccepted appointments who admittedly are waiting to see what other college acceptances materialize, with the Ivies in most cases being the preferred option. (After a terrific CVW, my DS, who has been sitting on his (Northern CA) appointment since Jan, is accepting as of today!)

MsMom, if you dont mind me asking, what congressional district are you from? I am also from NorCal and still waiting.

Actually, I stand corrected. I've been jumping around on the different academy forums since DS has applied to 3. DS is on wait list for USNA and hasn't heard yet from USAFA.

If USNA is now developing a wait list, is it safe to figure that the 2015 class of appointments is full and all those still waiting will receive a TWE or be wait listed as well?

Why would a wait list be developed otherwise?

I would guess that USNA has generally decided who will be offered appointments, TWEs, and WL, although not all notifications have gone out. At this point, I would expect there would be more TWEs and WLs than BFEs. However, that said, we still see people posting of having received appointments virtually every day and those that post here are only a small segment of overall applicants.

This might be terminology, but I'd offer that it is not "safe to figure that the 2015 class of appointments is full ..." More likely, it means appointments have been offered, but not yet accepted. And in a few cases, appointment offers may be pending waiver determinations. So trying to scoop or pre-determine if one will receive a TWE, BFE, or wait-list notice may not be time, worry, and/or waiting well spent.

The person on the waitlist, I believe, is a military prepster, and they may be dealt with differently. Assuming the RD in admissions is correct, as of Friday, not all representative appointments have gone out yet, admissions is still working on those, so don't assume that just because TWE's and maybe some waitlists have gone out, thats all thats left. If you haven't heard yet, stay positive!

Really? They still have not finished handing out appointments for the MOC slates? Interesting..
