Wait Listed for Class of 2017

Hello folks--just curious--did any others who read this post get wait-listed and then finally receive an appointment, and if so, how was the process for you? Any luck getting your deposit back from secondary institution after the May 1 deadline? We haven't even attempted that yet, just curious to see how you might have went about it. DS is looking forward to the challenge. All the best. Enjoy reading the various posts. Thank you.

I got the phone call last Wednesday the 8th that I did receive an appointment! However, I chose to decline, and instead am attending an instate school with a 4 year AFROTC Scholarship. I am an Air Force brat, and though I was so happy to hear I got an appointment, I hope it will go to someone who really wants it and will do great things in the Coast Guard!

Great job, Ready for the Challenge. Almost exact same thing here minus the Air Force. Enjoyed your posts, all the best in the future and good luck.

Congratulations to your DS djed! Good luck to you Ready for the Challenge with AFROTC! Unfortunately I am still on the wait list and it doesn't appear that I received your spot. :frown: Does anyone know about how many appointments are left or if they are still in the process of calling those people on the waitlist?

Good luck CGAFencer--I hope you get the call! You sound like you deserve and pray you get the opportunity. Don't give up the dream. Later--djed

Thanks djed! If i dont get in this year I definetly plan on reapplying next year!

I was waitlisted but just got a call yesterday saying I have been appointed. I already am committed to USMA though my first choice.

So have you declined the appointment, so we can appoint someone else from the wait list? If you were already "committed" to your first choice on 5/1...then why did you tell us you were still interested in an appointment?

Sad to say, after much thought, DS turned down USCGA appointment this week... hoping one of you fantastic kids on the waitlist were able to take his spot.

Good luck MMMMom If you don't mind me asking, where did he decide to go? Our DS chose the USCGA after being wait listed there and then we moved on to some very fine institutions offering very generous scholarships and/or financial aid packages-he finally picked Fordham before the May 1 deadline, we sent deposit, and then got the USCGA call May 8. I have to say, if he didn't pick Fordham I would have dropped out of life and enrolled there! I mean what a beautiful place. I knew it was nice but my God-what a college. Anyway after some soul searching and a last minute curve ball from Villanova of all places, he picked USCGA. It is perfect for him in so many ways and we are directly accross from it on Long Island Sound. Anyway, good luck MMMMon its been good corresponding with you djed

Djed, he will be attending Virginia Tech. Great fit for him... He has some issues with color vision, and although he passed the lantern test here and was medically cleared I think he was very nervous he would arrive, fail it, and be sent right back home. I've read about several kids that has happened to, and I think he just couldn't stomach that possibility. Best of luck to your son at USCGA... I absolutely loved it there!

MMMMom- Have one niece who will be senior and one nephew entering freshman class of V-Tech in the Fall. A great choice. From the NY metro area. Good luck-will check back here-djed

We paid the required deposit to UNH as plan B when it was looking more like plan A. When DD received the call moving her off the wait list, I assumed that the money was gone. However, one thing about the Academies is that it is the military and when I explained to the admissions department that she had received ORDERS to the military they refunded the full amount, wished her the best of luck AND offered to put her admission as deferred just in case.
