Wait Listed

So let me get this strait, since it said hundreds more will be appointed from whatever list I'm on, does that mean I'm in the national pool right now? This is a little confusing.

Please EMAIL your Regional Admissions Officer. They will most likely give you the answer.

you application looks good, very good,
the problem is your schools api scores might not be very high. For instance, you took all those ap classes and pretty much aced them. Your in the tip 10 percent of your class pretty much and that very good. But your schools api scores, from those standardized tests, is not very high. We can tell that this is it because of your sats. At my school( I am a junior), I take about as many ap classes as you and i have continually struggled in them. I have about a 3.8 weighted but my sat is 2080 so far. The reason why the sat has so much weight on it in west points admissions is that ALL THE KIDS IN THE US TAKE THE SAME TEST and thus they can accurately judge everybody's relative standing.

But your Sat scores are not bad at all, they are about average, and your cfa tests are about average as well. but the rest of your app is superb. I wish i had so many extracurriculars going on.
Truthfully, your probably on the top of the waitlist and I have good faith that you will get in.

Hopefully i'll get in as well.
All to do now is stalk the mail man and pester your admissions reps

You might also ask your ALO and/or your regional folks about an AOG Scholarship Opportunity. Every year there are qualified candidates that for some reason don't get the nod from their respective member of congress or senator. As a way of keeping those candidates they receive an AOG Scholarship to go to what I would call a military college, like Marion Military in Alabama or New Mexico Military Institute for a year. So long as the candidate doesn't screw up at that school, they will receive an appointment for the following year's class. This is not the same as the Prep. School...

Waitlisted. :( Apparently they sent a letter but I didn't get it, so I found out today via email.

Your problem may have been that you waited too long to finish you file, I'm assuming this based on the fact that you just got wait listed, this means that they have to compare you to EVERYONE left now instead of just a few people which would be the case if you finished early. Don't take this the wrong way but if you finished earlier on your application in say September your chances would have been ALOT better perhaps even a LOA. If you don't get in this year finish you application earlier next and the combination of that and you applying a second time and doing well in college should do very well for you if you're interested.

P.S. I apologize if my assumptions are wrong, I tried to be politically correct and factually correct my mistake if I am wrong in any other areas, people can be so unforgiving on these forums.

I had everything in by August 13th actually :) I had to wait for the MOC nominations to be sent to West Point though which was out of my control and got there on the deadline (Jan 31). The letter that I should have gotten was dated in February.

I think your problem might have been your state. NJ is highly populated, when compared to New Hampshire or Vermont. Kids with stats just like yours, some lower, have been admitted to WP from my local school.

I've been waitlisted as well, but I'm pretty much seeing it as a rejection letter. I really don't expect an acceptance at all. Stats just for information:

I got wait listed as well, I'm not overly upset though because West Point is my third choice. However, it would be nice to still get an appointment there as well.

I am curious to know how much the delay in MOC getting their nominations sent in can affect chances. Checking out the websites for our local Congressperson and Senators, I note that they all have deadlines for submittal of as late as November 23, 2011. So even if an applicant from our state completes and submits his/her application by, say, August, does this mean it stays dormant and incomplete until the final piece arrives from our MOC? Is anyone aware of whether MOCs do rolling submittals, or do they typically wait until all the apps are in and then do a batch submittal after the due date?

It would be an interesting exercise to map admission rates from each state against the due dates required by the MOCs in that state.

DS just got his Wait list letter today. We were sorta happy about it...at least it wasn't a no. He emailed his AOL and asked how many were on the list and if he could come for a visit so who knows what he'll say. Hopefully something good. He already has an AROTC scholarship that he is trying to get transfered. So he has back up but would be nice to hear a yes or no. DS is still waiting for AFA as well.....

Does anyone know how many are on the "LIST"?

Obviously I'm not part of admissions, but I would hazard a guess that this is a big reason that USMA is so big on LoA's in comparison to the other service academies. LoA's are conditional based on what that particular applicant needs for West Point to say, yes, you're a definite appointment. LoA's start going out as early as July/August timeframe.

Unless you have a Presidential or other service connected nomination, it would be hard pressed that you have a nomination by that time. If the file is strong enough and WP likes what they see, they have the option of sending you an LoA so that once you are nominated, you are all set if medically cleared.

Thanks Casey. That helps. :thumb:

I have recieved word from my admissions officer that no more NWL slots will be opened up. This is the end for all those that got wait-listed.

There are some appointees that have not accepted their spot in the class of 2015. The deadline to accept or decline is May 1st. So, when some individuals say no to the offer of admission the academy will start offering admission one spot a time to those on the wait list starting at the top of the NWL.

Don't give up so easily.

Things have changed a bit since when I applied, but I got my "Qualified and on USMA Waiting List" letter dated April 2.

It's not even April yet.

Aaron, I do not think that the national waiting list is going to be opened up any further. We should get the final word this week. The person that you are talking about had a national level slot, so it does not affect your ability to gain the local congressional vacancy slot (which has been accepted). Sincerely, Major Golden
