can anyone tell me about being on :confused:the wait list? what kind of percentage a student actually has of getting in this way? are many applicants wait listed??
how long before hearing an acceptance/reject? been waiting months only to get waited and now more waiting!!

Making the wait list means that you made it a lot farther than most applicants. You don't want to hear this, but no one can put a percentage on the chances of getting a full appointment off the wait list. For the class of 2014, there were only a handful (my son got one of the very last appointments off the wait list), while in prior years several dozen have been chosen from the wait list. You may also be offered a scholarship to prep school. It all depends on how many of those who received offers actually accept them. There are always applicants that end up getting disqualified for some reason which opens up a spot for someone off the wait list. The person selected off the wait list will need to fill the skill set that the vacated person possessed (music, athletics, super academics, etc). It is somewhat the luck of the draw.

Remember to keep breathing! :shake: Ours rec'd phone call 2 weeks before RDay and the waiting was exhausting...Keep the faith and hang on! :thumb:

she got the letter today...

We are so proud of our DD.. she got a TWE today.. but she is wait listed. Her spirits are still up and we will continue on and hope she can join the class of 2015. So here we go with more waiting.... :thumb:

some hope left

Well, my son is still hoping they will want a strong rugby player....but seems he will reapply or accept a scholarship to Prep school if offered. We just put deposit on U Maine in Marine Science - so, good choice either way.

It's harder on us, moms!

I know our DD will reapply if she doesn't get picked up this year. Her plan "B" is she is going to Univ. of Fla. and be a gator engineer! She will play water polo for them.. (but still keeping fingers crossed for USCGA! ) She'd love to be a Bear but being a Gator isn't such a bad runner up!

New to forum though have been stalking for a few weeks just as we stalked the mailman
DD received waitlist letter today and is discouraged. USCGA requested updated transcript, but as HS is mid-semester now there is no update until end of year. Anyone else in same situation and/or know if we should request progress reports from teachers to send in lieu of updated transcript?

suzief....gotta love those polo girls. they just can't be held down for long! i will keep my fingers crossed for an appt. for your daughter.

best wishes to you from one polo momma to another!

DS received a letter today, wait listed. I am so impressed with the Coast Guard. They have been so true to their deadlines ect.. EA1. they said that we would know if the candidate will get an appointment or deferred by 12/24. DS was deferred at that point. Then CG stated that DS would know by 4/15 if he would get an appointment or not. The letter was dated 4/12 regarding the wait list.
I think Boss51 stated here at one point " The CGA doesn't say " no" they say " Not Yet". That is so true!! Hang in there. Either way, DS has his Plan B and will be heading to Clarkson University( Aeronautical Engineering).
We shall wait together:biggrin: rangermom

rangermom....what a GREAT way to look at things. Your son is lucky to have a good example such as that to follow. He will do well. :thumb:

I hope the BFE is still on its way to your son. If not, a waitlist spot is truly a "not yet"....spoken by a mom who went through the process. Twice! The second time around after an initial waitlist spot did the trick!

Good luck to your son, wherever he ends up.

Thanks, Shellz!!!
You went through this twice??!! Wow, amazing... This has been a pretty neat process. Even if the BFE never comes, my son has really learned a lot from this process, CGA and he just loved AIM. He will always have a story to tell his kids someday:wink:
So, you have 2 kids at the academy or one that applied twice?? You must be so proud!!!rangermom

Yes....twice for one kid.

It was a very enlightening process for all of us. It allowed us to see a glimpse of the determined young man we knew he would someday be.....just a whole lot sooner than we thought we would!

Please keep us posted! I hope good news is on the way soon!
