Wait listed

CPR over here in TN-02 still. What are the chances of getting an appointment vs NAPS, Foundation, or getting waitlisted at this point?

Got my waitlist notice earlier today as well in an email and as a portal update. Going to put down payment at Notre Dame with a 4 yr NROTC. Excited for the next step, whatever it may be.

Brotre Dame you mean. Naval Academy's favorite school. Good luck, but holy cow, these plan B schools are excellent choices especially with the NROTC programs.

Just heard from our BGO. Little Gonzo shows as rejected, even though his portal we can see shows CPR. End of the line. Now to figure out how to break the news. Good luck to the rest of you!

and were there a bunch of appointments the following week?
Sorry no, hate to be Debbie Downer. I dont recall any appts on this forum after the waitlist came out. Perhaps things will work differently this year with portal notifications. Last year we had snail mail.

Sorry. Good luck. That's not good news for any of us CPRs. DD will not be far behind I'm pretty sure.

Were those actually new appointments or people just accepting their older appointments?

Hello, just received news that I have been selected for the wait list. What's it like for a person on wait list? When will I generally find out if I get in or not? How many people usually get accepted as a wait lister? On the bright side at least I didn't get rejected.
Amazingly, my son was waitlisted although he has nearly perfect SAT scores, straight As at his competitive high school, star all-state runner, taking calculus BC and AP Physics 2 this year and earning As; wants to study engineering; lots of leadership and extra-curricular activities, TWO nominations from an extremely competitive pool; no medical or any other issues....makes me wonder who the heck they are picking!

Thank You. This is all new to us. He is looking for a military career, whether through a scholarship or direct enlist. I appreciate all info everyone has posted. USNA and NAPS are his plan A. My son is still waiting on Plan B ,NROTC - Marine Option decision. He has been accepted to 3 of his 4 colleges applied to (VT, Ohio State, SUNY Maritime)into the Engineering Program and waiting list for his top choice (RPI).

Don't beat yourself up about it. There are no guarantees. I think sometimes it's better to have low scores and get into prep school than be qualified. I have a different view of who gets in and who doesn't after experiencing this ordeal. See kids that can't chew gum and walk at the same time get appointments when scholar athletes get rejected. Persistence is a good trait

I feel your pain. We are in CA, 4.23 gpa, never a B in his life, top 6% of class, 4 years of football, great SAT and ACT, AP calc AB and BC, physics, chem, lots of EC's, youth football coach, intern at engineering firm bla bla bla. The kids that got in must be super kids!

Or, because I personally know of a lot of these cases, so I am not repeating rumors; the kids that got in have connections that we do not. And, frankly, being male is not an asset.

I think an USNA ( and any SA) rejection is just harder to swallow...the process is long. It requires so much more effort than applying to regular college. So when you get that TWE or waitlist, you do a double -take at your screen and your child's perfect record pops into your head and you cannot believe it. You ask yourself , " how can this be, MY CHILD IS STELLAR!!?" It makes no sense. The reality is no one knows the admissions process and what it entails. You will never figure it out, you will never know the why ( other than there are not enough spots for all the qualified kids). Move forward, be persistent, work even harder and apply again if that is the ultimate goal. Yesterday was Ivy Day..there are so many parents today shaking their heads with you. Best of luck.

Agreed, but suspect most of the applicants still waiting to hear look very much like your DS as well.

Yes it is hard to swallow after almost a year. My son started this last year when the NASS app first was available. A lot invested, it would sure be nice to get some feed back from the USNA to see where he needs to improve. I doubt he will want to re-apply. He will probably want to turn the page and immerse himself into Plan B.

I get what you are saying and he has wonderful plan Bs in place; the point isn't that we are wallowing. It is that it is ridiculous, especially with all the obscurity around the nominations and appointments, to think that favor-granting isn't happening. I know of these cases but was hoping my son's unbelievable record would be enough. I tutored a student in chemistry who could barely add and he got in because the family knew the nominating senator. Over the last few years, various groups have tried to penetrate the black hole that is the appointment process and been rebuffed. Those who have gotten information on "Golden ticket" nominations (not the competitive slate) have exposed connections and back-scratching.

Is this tongue-in-cheek/sarcastic? If not, it's pretty offensive to the other hard-working well qualified kids that got in. I get that people are upset regarding their status, but that's no excuse to belittle the accomplishments of others by suggesting they are something other than the result of their own hard work and effort. Please tell me I missed something.
