Wait listers

AuxNoob, as an admissions partner do you know the current status with the final scheduled 2020 waitlist review board? Have the final appointment offers gone out?

I don't. I'm not involved in decisions. I'm not sure when the last CGAS waitlist decisions are made, as that has to work in conjunction with the prep school schedule. The direct admission waitlisters can get a call right up to R-Day.

CGAS is similar to direct appoint. CGAS starts with a three week indoctrination period at the Academy starting the third week in July. There could be (unlikely) calls as late as the end of June.

If you are on the wait list, you should be executing your alternate plans now. If the call comes, you may have to forfeit deposits, but you should be able to accept your appointment.

Maybe the questions is how late can MMI enroll someone? If CGAS offers an appointment just prior to the start of orientation, can they get enrolled at the prep school?

If CGA sends them, we'll take them! Once a student is selected for CGAS and given their school assignment, they can go to the prep school's web site and start the application process. Because they are assigned by CGA, they will be automatically accepted and the courses front-loaded.

There is paperwork that needs to be sent to the prep schools (immunization forms, FAFSA, high school transcripts, etc.). The requirements are in the prep school's web site. If the prep school can get the forms before CGAS R-day, then great. If not, send in what can be sent in, and we'll work things out when the student arrives at the prep school. Students will arrive at MMI about a week before classes begin, while GMC starts classes about 3 weeks after prep school check-in.

DS was just notified he's coming to Marion! Is there a best time to visit prior to indoctrination?
Any time is fine. MMI is on summer break, but the Admissions office is fully staffed. Just contact them to schedule a campus tour and they'll be happy to accommodate you. Also, tell them that your son is sponsored Coast Guard, and they'll inform me. I'll make myself available for the visit.

Have any 2020 waitlisters received any news recently?
No news. I was expecting that my DS would have got the waitlist closed email by now. Navy were sending out TWE recently to their waitlist ( based on what was being said on their forum ) and presume CGA must be close as well.
DS is already involved with his backup plan and looking at reapplying 2021.

Same here...at least through graduation weekend she can still say she's "currently waitlisted for the United States Coast Guard Academy," which is an honor in and of itself.

Nextgen and Chuck20, will keep positive and prayers coming your way.

Sometime during the summer. I did not get an exact date from Admissions, but you haven't missed it.

Last year, my son was notified of Cadet for a Day , near the end of July. You will need to sign up quickly because slots go fast.

For CFAD, consider getting in contact w/ coaches if your DS/DD is looking into recruitment. They can usually put your name in for a special athletic CFAD where only athlete recruits are invited. I did that last year and was able to visit USCGA for the first time through that.
