Waiting game begins

So as of today we think DS is finished everything in his power for USMA and now the wait. He was 3Q and has just completed his last interview this morning - in total 2 senators, 1 MOC, FFR, and ROTC. All went extremely well, one with a personal follow up to a conversation. He has his acceptances and merit offers from universities with multiple choices if he gets the TWE.

Is there anything for him/us to do for this process other than just wait? Should he be checking the portals (and what should he be looking for) or keeping in touch with his FFR? Should he attend an upcoming local information session just to show interest and maintain contact with the FFR? Just trying to make sure he didn't come this far only to misstep at the end by missing something.

Same situation here with my son, minus 1 senator...(just couldn't make the travel happen).

My son did receive a LOE back on Nov. 4th, but we understand that, while "encouraging" there is NO guarantee associated with that. He did write a short update email to his Regional Admissions Officer (like you say to continue to show interest and maintain contact) over the past week, but nothing noteworthy there, simply replied, "you're good, now get a nom".

It's difficult for him to resist checking the portals frequently, but we've told him he'll know one way or the other in time. Like your son, he has some great back-up plans in place if this doesn't happen.

We'll be pulling for you and we'll look forward to meeting you on R-day (if only...)!

Best thing you can all do is to make sure you absolutey squeeze every bit of joy out of the next few months you all have together. The time will fly so whatever your norms and traditions are within your family.... take advantage to experience every single one of them. Make memories that will last... as hard as it is... do your best to not put pressure on your ds or dd and keep it light and as stress free as possible. If they have gotten this far into the process...USMA or not.... they are going to be incredibly successful and happy regardless of where they attend college. They are driven, intelligent, caring young men and women and you should be humbly proud for the part you played in getting them this far! So relax...cook your favorite meals.... play your favorite games...see movies...and enjoy every minute you have left because now till the day they graduate college the time is going to fly. My 2018 DS gets his first promotion Tuesday and my 2019 and his new bride begins flying at Rutger in early December and this will be the first Thanksgiving and Christmas they will not be home together so cherish the time you have and relax lol...even when the mailbox stalk begins! Best of luck and congratulations!

Is there some type of official notification from the USMA or Regional Commander that a candidate is "3Q'd"? And if so, how long did it take to receive notification after having 100% of the application complete (with the exception of 7th semester grades)? Thank you and good luck to all...the waiting game is difficult!

Yes there is an office 3Q’d letter. If I remember correctly both on portal and an actual letter. Our case was a bit different form most because our FFO was in transition so he wasn’t very present during our process although he did his best to keep us informed, so I can’t be much of help there. Good luck to you!!

My son saw it on his portal somewhere. I have never seen the portal so not sure where but he was excited and told us about it. Then he received a call from someone, either his FFR or admissions officer, congratulating him and asking if he was ready/had any questions before heading into interviews. I've been busy at work so there could also have been a letter, but if there was I haven't seen it.

Scholastically (academics, test scores, class rank, GPA, leadership, extracurricular, etc.), physically (DODMERB), athletically (CFA).
thank you! New to all of this and think I need a glossary! How does one know if they are? My DS received a LOE last month. Had his medical last week and should be fine...might need additional info on a surgery he had. And he just received a nomination...

DS got a letter in the mail and a call from his FFR a couple of days later.

If he's submitted his CFA a while ago and hasn't been told to retake it, he's likely physically all good. I think there should be a green check mark in the portal next to CFA.
If they need additional info on surgery, they will ask. Don't provide anything they don't ask for, is the general advice on these forums. You will probably hear from DODMERB within a couple of weeks and if they qualify him, that will also be indicated in the USMA portal.
Academically, if he's in range of the averages, probably ok and if his application is completed and he got an LOE, there shouldn't be any academic concerns.
So if DODMERB approves him medically and he has a nomination, then it would be up to the academy to select him, but 3Q with a nomination generally leads to a positive outcome, though apparently it can be highly dependent on how competitive your state / district is. If he were a principle nominee, which is not the way most MOCs do it, he would be automatically in if he were 3Q.
I'm replying to save others with more experience the trouble of doing so, but this is how I understand it after being on the forums for the past few months while DS goes through the process. He's 2Q now (academically and CFA) with an LOE, but needs a medical waiver from a surgery in early October, though probably will take 2 more months for full clearance. MOC interviews done, waiting for a nomination.
What state are you in? Good luck!

I might be wrong, but I think roughly 50% of 3Q with noms get appointed.

Yes, usually about 50%--sometimes more--you can see it clearly on the class profiles. Great group of kids with whom to spend the next seven months waiting. Hopefully that first big wave in mid-January will ease a lot of anxiety.

@tryingmybest You mention college admissions--but what about your DS/DD's Army ROTC scholarship application? Is that done? Are you waiting on the results of the second board? If not, that would be a great use of this time. Because if you want to be an Army officer, you want to be an Army no matter where you go to school. It shouldn't be USMA or nothing.

I am not sure where he is in the ROTC process. He has had an interview and I think he submitted another/different CFA. I think it is all finished but I guess I will have him check and make sure that he has cleared all of those hurdles as well. Does he contact the schools to find out about their ROTC programs or does he wait to see his status? Again, I am trying my best to understand all of the different moving parts without getting caught up in it since the odds are so long. We are very thankful for the FFR who has been so great at answering questions and providing support.

My interview with FFR was done but my RC stated that it was not submitted yet.

I didn't know about 3Q until I saw this thread. Should I contact FFR to complete his report so that West Point can review my application?

I completed my overnight visit...I think that I may have a very high chance to be 3Q'd based on LOE and all GPA/scores. It was already confirmed that I passed CFA and DoDMERB.

I am wondering if a review for 3Q can be done only after my FFR's report is submitted to West Point. This is the last part in my application except a nomination.

I am glad to check this forum to find 3Q info. Many thanks to everyone!

Question about the FFR interview, where is the prompt for the FFR interview in the application portal? Would DS be contacted, or is he to initiate the contact? His application will be complete as soon as his CFA results are submitted by his NSI. Thanks in advance!

FFR interview is not in the portal but my son's RC confirmed when asked they had received the FFR interview. Seems strange to me.

Thank you. Since then, he's received a letter stating he is 2Q (with an LOE) and we are awaiting the medical qualification. He passed CFA and Interview at SLE this summer. All green checks in the portal. All steps in the right direction...thanks again! Good luck to your son. We are in MD.

I would have him contact his Regional Commander to ask about the interview. Apparently an interview needs to be done by a FFR, which is new this year, and not all FFRs were notified about it. It isn't on the portal as a prompt and it seems inconsistent as to how candidates are finding out that they need one. Many candidates on here (my DS included) had interviews done at SLE but were told that they needed a FFR also.
