Waiting Game

Do not go to VMI. I go to VA Tech right now. I have a couple friends at VMI that wish they went here instead of VMI. VMI is a depressing place. At Virginia Tech, we are able to be with civilians and live pretty normal lives outside of the corps.
This is the way I see it. Let me know what you think.
Pros of VMI: All military school (better prepped for a military career and everyone is the same), know more people at VMI (4)
Cons of VMI: Less quality education (Applied Mathematics instead of Engineering), militaristic (more strict, less fun), less educated people

Pros of VTCC: civilian school (diverse pop, opportunities for non-military activities, more females (lol), better research facilities (engineering), lots of opportunities for internships, better degree (engineering instead of math) for a career after the military. 3rd gen VTCC cadet.
Cons of VTCC: less military environment (less prepped for career), might not graduate in 4 years (w/engineering degree = possibly more money), know fewer people in corps, but more people in college in general.

We are in GA and I have only seen 2 on the list- one was an early appointment in December and the other was an Enlisted military member- no direct appointments from GA yet. We still haven’t heard a word. I’m thinking next week is the week that declination letters may be issued from what I’ve read but not 100% sure.
I'm GA, March appointment.

Yes, VMI is all military, but that will not better prepare you for the career in the military. The amount of military that VT offers will prepare you to the same standard that VMI prepares you. VT is just enough military so that it does not feel overboard.

Plus, in the fleet, you work until COB (Close of Business), unless on deployment. At VT, rats must wear their uniforms 24/7, upperclassmen can wear cits and be normal past COB. (1700 Mon - Thur 1400 Fri)

Not sure which of the forums this would pertain to but I am somewhat in the waiting game and thought of throwing it here. I was medically disqualified but on my DODMERB it says "under waiver review" should I expect a formal letter from the academy saying I was not accepted or is the medical disqualification enough to know I didn't make it at this point?

I submitted my application on Jan the 9th and still awaiting word. I received a nom from my Rep and also one from my AJROTC instructor so I'm very hopeful. I should hear back about an AFROTC scholarship in the next to days as I'm looking at VMI and Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets as a plan B. I am split between the two, any suggestions?
From what I've heard, only go to VMI if you are "all-in" and fully prepared both physically and mentally. It is a very tough place. Most folks who go to VMI don't go as a "Plan B."

I'm not exactly qualified to answer this as I'm still in high school, but I'm going off of what I've read in the forums. From what I've read, SAs request waivers if they want you there. If you "didn't make the cut", USAFA wouldn't have requested a waiver for you. So, under waiver review should be a good thing. Hopefully that made sense, if there's someone who can explain it better go ahead.

Will the vast majority of those still waiting receive notification on, or around, April 21st?

Hello All, I been reading posts since my son applied and completed his application in Nov 2020. He exceeded physical requirements and has congressional nomination. However, NO word what so ever as of today. Since, now we are almost to end, does it mean, it's almost over?

If USAFA requested a waiver on behalf of a candidate, the candidate will receive notification/letter in the portal. Unfortunately "under waiver review" by itself, does not mean the SA requested a waiver. Mr. Mullen can confirm but I believe it means all the information that DoDMERB has is available to the SA should they need it/choose to review it. No expert here either - just a parent that went through the process with their DS.
