Just wanted to make a separate thread for those of us waiting.... trying to avoid so many messages in the appointment thread (I'm definitely guilty of those off-topic posts :)). Just a place to posts all our anxieties and even speculations. Best of luck to you all :popcorn1:

@anlee, you have good intentions here. Camaraderie can indeed help in times of stress. At the same time, I seriously wonder if sharing, as you say, “anxieties and speculations,” is actually very counterproductive.

One of the most constant pieces of advice shared on SAF — because it’s such great counsel — is to focus your energy and time on things you can control. Worrying about anything beyond that is a terrible suck on your mental and physical health.

With respect for your good intentions and a nod to your leadership, I say go exercise to burn off stress and prepare yourself for summer training; tend to your Plan B; and spend meaningful time with family and friends. All those will be far more rewarding and productive than wallowing in each others’ “anxieties and speculations” here.

While I agree with your advice, as you can see from the appointment thread, even with the best of intentions, it tends to get cluttered with casual conversation. Because I agree, the speculation in the main thread drives me crazy

I also think the pandemic has made finding those distractions a little more difficult. The usual senior year stuff....classes, prom, sports...it's just not happening for so many. I say that and I think my DS is actually dealing with this much better than his parents....so maybe this is my way of dealing with the stress without putting it on him???

On that note....I'm still going to try to minimize portal and SAF checks 👍 What will be, will be....

The wait will only get worse as the month goes on... hopefully everyone finds out sooner rather then later. Thankfully I am quite busy with work so I don't have to think about it too much haha.

There's been a lot of speculation in the appointment thread- people charting out past years and asking for previous appointment threads etc. My intentions were to move all of those posts here in order to decrease clutter in the appointment thread :). People are stressed, and some may find comfort in knowing other people are anxiously waiting also. I assume a large majority of us, due to covid, are lacking sufficient human interaction, so any support system could be helpful. I work out for an hour and a half everyday, attend my lectures, spend time with family, and I still find myself stressing. It's hard to find people who understand the extent of this stress, so my intention was to have a space for people to support one another during this "waiting game".

Good luck everyone! Just wondering, for those set on attending USAFA, what's the main motivation? Does everyone have a specific Air Force career in mind or is there some other reason?

Pilot slot pilot slot pilot slot. My AFROTC detachment is great, and I love it. We have awesome community service opportunities and ways to serve those around us. However, as an aviation geek who flies privately 4x a week, that's my dream career in the Air Force and USAFA almost guarantees it.

I feel as though there is a surprisingly large number of people in our "waiting for waiver" situation. When they start trickling in, I'm sure we'll hear about it.

Does USAFA contact you if they decide to pursue a waiver or do you just hear the decision when it releases? Also does the waiver process involve DODMERB or just the academy itself?

Not 100% sure on this, as I have not yet had a waiver requested. I'm sure others on the forum will fill in for my lack of knowledge.

Based on my DS's experience, a letter will be posted in your portal from admissions informing you they have requested a waiver on your behalf. Then your DoDMERB will update. Then they will contact you if they want more information for the waiver consideration.
