Waiting Game

Wondering that myself? Do the applicants get notified if they are on NWL or is it just internal at admissions?
There was a helpful post on another thread by justdoit19 that helped me. I can't remember the thread, but you can find it with a search. According to that post, you will be notified because you have to accept whether you want to stay on the wait list.

Do y'all know what days the portal usually releases appointments or other updates? I've heard Tuesday and Wednesday, but I just wanna be sure.

I've also heard Tuesday and Wednesday but I'm pretty sure it's all just speculation. You can always check the 2025 appointment thread to see what the trends have been this year. The 17th seemed to be the biggest day and that was a Wednesday :)

Yep true story. I have a Mid appointed in early December, and one pulled off the waitlist in mid May. Vastly different experiences. For the waitlist, you are emailed a ‘we don’t have space at the moment but keep a few on a list to fill out the last few spots’ kind of thing. Also that they ‘understand people need to move on. So if you are interested in staying on the list, please email xxxx stating so’. It came around the mass TWE event, around April.

Not sure how many started on the list, but as time went on, people from it received TWE’s. A few of us parents with Mids still on would keep up via PM. Eventually I believe two of us (from SAF) made it, and we are now real life friends.

Another interesting thing about that process with my two guys, showcases that every year, competition and slates differ. We believe, on paper, our youngest had better stats that big bro, and were surprised he was on the wait list. So ‘ya just NEVER KNOW what magic is or isnt happening behind the doors of admissions....🤪

EDIT: I now see this is a USAFA thread. Our experience was with USNA. I don’t know how USAFA does any waitlisting...

Once an application is under review by the academy, how long should it be until notified of decision?

It varies by a lot. Stellar candidates could receive appointment offers as early as october-november (if I remember correctly). However, appointment offers can also happen only a short time before BCT in june. Most people will hear early in the spring before mid-april.

Does anyone know when most of the Falcon Scholarships are/have been handed out? I am still waiting on any news from USAFA, similar to most of you on this thread, and was wondering if I would still be considered for a Falcon Scholarship. If anyone has any information on this, it would be greatly appreciated.
From Insider 3/11/21:
All,

Many Falcon Foundations offers hit portals this morning. There will be more however, but probably not many until after April 15 (the date the current offers will expire if not accepted). The FF has a limited number of slots and must wait to see how many remain after the first batch of offers are accepted, rejected, or expire. Historically only about 50% of FF offers are accepted. The 50% who don't accept often have direct appointments to USMA and/or USNA, so definitely do not give up hope on FF offers (it is not uncommon for USAFA Admissions to make additional FF offers as late as mid-June).

As far as direct appointments are concerned, a lot of candidates will get notified by their congressman and/or senators over the next week. USAFA intentionally delays posting appointments on the portals to allow time for the congressmen and senators to break the news to the appointees. Not all congressmen and senators take advantage of that, however. The majority of this years offers will post to the portals next week.

Let me stress that this is not the final list of offers (but it is most of them). There are still a number of unresolved vacancies that Admissions is working hard to complete (so don't give up hope if you don't get an appointment next week). USAFA Admissions generally sends non-select letters around the middle of April as we continue to complete processing and making offers until then.

Anyone on here from Mississippi? I am from MS and love following this website. It provided much needed info for my DS(current Firstie) throughout the process. I have not seen anyone from MS on the list yet and was wondering if there were any waiting.

We are in GA and I have only seen 2 on the list- one was an early appointment in December and the other was an Enlisted military member- no direct appointments from GA yet. We still haven’t heard a word. I’m thinking next week is the week that declination letters may be issued from what I’ve read but not 100% sure.

I submitted my application on Jan the 9th and still awaiting word. I received a nom from my Rep and also one from my AJROTC instructor so I'm very hopeful. I should hear back about an AFROTC scholarship in the next to days as I'm looking at VMI and Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets as a plan B. I am split between the two, any suggestions?

Do not go to VMI. I go to VA Tech right now. I have a couple friends at VMI that wish they went here instead of VMI. VMI is a depressing place. At Virginia Tech, we are able to be with civilians and live pretty normal lives outside of the corps.
