The State Department is processing passport applications again. They'll be processed on a first-in-first-out basis. DOS said that it would take 6-8 weeks to clear the backlog of 1.7 million applications. Sounds a little optimistic to me, but I don't anticipate the swabs, at least, will need passports this summer.

You’re correct, your future swab won’t need the passport during swab summer. I would just make sure they have some kind of ID with them (like a driver’s license). I don’t remember needing that at all either but it won’t hurt to have it. Once the passport comes in, you can send it to CGA in a care package or just wait until parent’s weekend or when you next see your to be cadet!

Yeah I tried contacting the state department and was told by the coast guard representative that I dont qualify for the rushed passport and I will have to wait for the standard shipping. I am going to email my admissions counselor tomorrow to confirm it is not required.

We have been most concerned about the passport. Our son had an expired youth passport. We scheduled and completed his passport application about two months ago and still no update. Thank you for the information.

They addressed this on the 2024 Parents Facebook (moderator checked with academy) Not to worry about passport not coming on time. Make sure everyone has regular identification for access to Academy.

Wow! So she didn't even submit her application until after everything shut down? My daughter's was in a couple weeks before shut down but we still don't have it. I guess it depends on the location.

we submitted passport stuff on 4/3 and just got notice saying we should have it 6/29.

I emailed the admissions counselor. They told me that you have done everything you could and on the day when we report just tell them that you applied for your passport on 4/3 and am not expected to recive it until 6/29. I applied may 10th and have not heard anything back yet. I dont think we will need it till we take the eagle out.

You don't even need it for EAGLE since you won't be making any foreign port calls. We went to Europe my 3/c summer and we only carried it as a just in case thing. I don't even remember anyone asking me if I brought mine with me during swab summer, it just stayed in my lock box during my time at USCGA except for summer trainings. They'll find plenty of other things to comment on. ;)

I just reported above ^^^ post from a new member with the embedded link about a fake ID. If you don’t see it, mods have scooped it up.
