This thread about plebe communication made me laugh. We have the same problem of getting info from our plebe during our brief intermittent phone calls. This weekend I had the opportunity to visit. Our communication has been so limited my wife gave me a list of questions to ask her. I took her and a few friends out to dinner after two hours I think I had said maybe three words. They talked non stopped. I'm surprised they actually ate with the non stop talking and laughing. It was one of the best conversations I have ever had :)

But was your wife happy [emoji38]?

Well, considering that the application deadline is January 31st, it will probably be after that. :)

April 15th is when 99% of all offers will have been tendered.

Given those dates, most applicants hear from USNA (good or bad) between January 1st and the middle of March.

I can confirm that this waiting thing doesn't go away. Before we were counting down the days until I-Day, then we counted down the days until Plebe Summer was over, and now every Plebe and their family is counting down the days until they can go home on leave, as well as the days until we're no longer Plebes.

My DS received the call from our MOC yesterday, NC-02. He was CPR since last fall. Will post next week after portal notification. Keep the faith! USMA and VT NROTC

just curious as we are in NC as well, which MOC did your DS ultimately get the nomination from? was it your congressman in 02?

If it reads "NC-02", the "02" would typically mean "2nd District".
If it reads "Senator 2" that would mean the "Junior Senator" (Meaning the Senator who has been in their seat the shortest time) in the State.

Sorry, but waiting to hear about an appointment pales in the face of the stress cadets feel on Branch Night in the seconds leading up to the words, "Class of 20xx, open your envelopes!" Hearts were bursting in that room. I hope I never witness anything like that again in my life.

Waiting is a big part if military life. Waiting for a nom and/or appt is just part of it. Waiting for branch night, ship selection, etc is another step. Then there is what unit am I going to, what MOS am I getting or what airframe did I get. After that it’s... did I get grad school, augmentation (career selection or whatever the Marines call it now), make the next rank, the shore/B billet I wanted, am I going overseas. Now throw in possibly a marriage and a kid or two to the mix with a house to manage, schools, maybe a pregnant spouse with a move at 7 months pregnant. Then there are career schools, command, etc. Oh that selection board that determines if you can stay for retirement, just got delayed because of funding or because Congress wants the list reviewed again. Oh you made it, now wait 12-16 months before you pin that on. Hurry up and wait is part of the military grind. It doesn’t end with the appointment process or at a SA. It’s just the start of it. You learn a new level of patience as a military person.

Last year, I did a pie chart, showing percentages of appointments (reported here on SAF) :
View attachment 1695

That is VERY UNSCIENTIFIC, however. It was a data sample of only 109 offers of appointment.
Reassuring - looks like mid-Jan & mid-Feb is the bulk of appointments. This will roughly parallel my DD’s civilian school options.

How do competitive nomination slates get resolved before the Feb 28 application deadline?

It would seem that if the MOC slate is a competitive slate and the SA application remains open until Feb 28, the "winner" of the slate cannot be determined until the end of the application period given applicants can use that time to continue to improve their application.

Application Deadline is January 31 , but you are correct, Noms & Appointments can't really evaluate until all Candidates have submitted their application, and the Admissions Board has reviewed and determined if Qualified. That is why most Offers come out in March/April.

Yes, you are right on 1/31 deadline for USNA. I confused it with USMA. Your response makes sense - thanks!

16 days to the application deadline for class of 2023. Then, the real waiting begins.

For class of 2022, there are only 125 days to the Herndon climb!
16 days -, who is waiting for the last minute???? Seems like DD’s Application was filed back in the stone ages... the waiting is killing me!!!!
