I am waitlisted for USMMA. Does anybody know when they start pulling names off the wait-list and how many people are brought up? I am from Michigan. Hopefully this doesn't end up being decided too late into May or June, because the deadline for committing to other colleges is May 1 and I kind of want to have an idea of where I'm going before graduation

I have no clue to the answer to your question. I do have some information that is germane to your situation.
My DS has an appointment to USMMA and is from Michigan, he also was accepted to a top 5 engineering college. Currently he is weighing his two options and may decline USMMA so that could be good for you.

@c-dubya here is more info on how they assign the class (maybe you’ve seen it?). Of course, having a MI appointment declined helps but a quick internet search shows MI appointment allocation = 7. I totally understand the need to make other plans - our oldest received his USNA decline on 28-APR. While he waited, he secured everything related to his Plan B and quickly pivoted to Plan B on 29-APR. He ended up where he was supposed to be 😉. He’s since graduated and I know he wouldn’t change his college experience for anything. Good luck 🍀 - we know how tough the wait can be.

Love to see some more Michigan kids at Kings Point. I'll reiterate that it is a challenge and hard work everyday, but if your kid loves the sea and wants to be in a maritime career it is a wonderful place.

You might hear that KP is a horrible place to be but a great place to be from. That latter is definitely true. No debt, 6 figure starting pay, military commission, wonderful alumni network and close knit friends, but it can also be a great place to be if you learn how to play the game, keep your head down and do the work.

Last weekend our Plebe was at a ball game on Coney Island, this weekend is off to a regional robotics competition and next weekend will be sailing varsity against Coast Guard.

God steer thee well, Kings Point!

How did you find out you were waitlisted? Portal?

Stay confident, my guy. I'm in the same position. Most movement happens after May 1st. However, if you're at the top of the waitlist, it's possible to get LOAs late in April because they tend to send out more offers than slots available.

I could be wrong about this, but everywhere I've looked, I've read the same. Most recruited athletes, in most cases, don't take spots from non-recruited athletes. They're added as additional appointees. So if you're looking at the appointment list and see someone from your state who's a recruited athlete, don't feel discouraged.

I do recommend sending a letter of continued interest and letting them know what you improved in or something along the lines of new accomplishments.

Historically, about half of those on the wait-list are offered appointments. It can happen anytime between now and end of June, with most coming by mid-May. As time goes on, the length of time appointees get to accept or decline shortens to 48 or even 24 hours as they try to fill the classes. Regarding your backup plans, if the deadline for committing to your Plan B is May 1, I would recommend accepting to that school and paying any required deposits before your deadline. If you get your KP appointment after depositing at another school, most schools will give you a refund. Even if they don't, it is a small price to pay for the KP opportunity. Good luck to all

I heard that some people don’t hear back all the way up till a week before I-Day

Yup my Plebe yr roommate didnt hear till last week of June. 10 days before I day. He had already committed to enlisted Navy bootcamp and was packing to leave the next day when his letter came in the mail to give him the nod. Went on to become a Sea Captain and now retired.

My son was waitlisted when still waiting for Doderm qualification. He is qualified now, can that status possible change?

Yes, it can change anytime within the next 2 1/2 months. No guarantees, but now that he is medically qualified, his chances have improved. Good luck.

What are you other options? Plan B? C? D?
My dad works at my local university so I can go there for pretty much zero expense so that's awesome. There is an ROTC program which I would pursue. I may also go to Michigan State for their program, all depends on money. USMMA would be my first choice

Take Calc/Chem/Physics at Zero Expense and do ROTC as a non-scholarship cadet/midn and reapply for 2031 is a pretty good Plan B!
