Waitlist??

Yes,

Once all the offers are sent out (let's say the class is to be 1215 cadets)...perhaps 1400 offers will be made. Quite a few will be turned down. As offers are turned down, the numbers keep being reviewed. Eventually (every year that I've been an ALO, that I know of) the acceptances won't be enough, initially, and then USAFA goes to the list of qualified alternates.

They'll make offers to qualified alternates based on their position in the "rack and stack" of "Weighted Composite Scores." That list will be used to fill the class.

So...is it a "wait list?" Maybe not in name, but in functionality, yes.

This is great information. At what point in this process are denial letters sent out if the qualified applicant's position in the "rack and stack" is really low? Basically, the applicant clearly is not close enough to the top of the waitlist to be considered a viable alternative.

When the academy decides it's time. There's not "deadline" or "timeframe" for this, that I've been made aware of; it's "floating" as the class fills.
