Waitlisted

DS was also was placed on the waitlist. He was 50/50 USAFA/USNA. We are headed to the USAFA next week for one of the tours for appointed students and he is going to make his decision after the visit. We have never been to Colorado Springs and I've always been told how beautiful the campus is (been to Annapolis three times). My guess is that I will have a future Falcon on my hands and he will withdraw from the waitlist but in the end, the decision is his.

That's nice. We too are headed for Colorado on 18th, for appointed student visit.

As posted in another thread, historically, a very small number have come off the WL; sometimes zero. Note that most people who ARE accepted off the waitlist historically haven't receive the good news until late May and sometimes well into June. However, every year is different. I would take comfort that you were very, very competitive. I would move forward with your "Plan B." If good news comes, you can figure out what to do at that point.

According to the Q&A about the wait list my son received yesterday: “We have offered appointments to approximately 1,300 of those students; we expect 1,155 students to accept our offer and enroll at USNA. If fewer than 1,155 students accept our offer, we will then offer admission to some of the students who have been put on our Wait List”.

Well this is insightful. If I’m interpreting it correctly, USNA themselves are saying the target class size is 1155 and that 1300 offers have been extended, which implies an 89% acceptance rate, right at the recent historical average.

So unless there is something incorrect about the wording of the USNA response provided by the poster, it sounds like they are done making appointments.

I would agree.

Which then means TWEs are on the way for those not moved to the waitlist yesterday.

I hope this isn't the case. I still haven't received a TWE, but that might be because I live on the West Coast and it just hasn't arrived yet. Nonetheless, I still remain hopeful for an appointment to the academy or NAPS.

I don’t conclude that. NAPS and Foundation haven’t gotten their appointments yet and that is nearly 300. I would think BFEs are going to be minimal at this point if you just look at last year trends. But for those CPR... BFE, TWE, Foundation or NAPS are still on the table.

This is a huge relief, thank you so much! When you say that they haven’t gotten their appointments yet, does that mean nobody has been accepted to NAPS/foundation yet?

I believe @NavyHoops is referring to the USNA Appointments given to the Current 2019 Graduating NAPS/Foundation Class which will happen in early May 2019. These Kids want a spot in the USNA class of 2023.

Maybe the poster did not provide the exact language from the Q&A with USNA regarding the waitlist. Perhaps it was more along the lines of:

“We anticipate making offers of appointment to approximately 1300...”

vs the posted “We have made offers of Appointment to approximately 1300...”

And when was the Q and A written? It’s one thing if it’s brand new and bears the date of the waitlist notification. Quite another if it’s a generic disclosure carried over.

Context matters.

My DS received waitlist email and too got the questions and answers about being waitlisted. I am not looking at it right now, but from what I remember, it also says the class of 2022, not 2023. Which I found very weird.

Your situation sounds very similar to son #1. He graduated from high school in 2014 and had applied to both USAFA and USNA. Received appointment to USAFA in early March of 2014 but was waitlisted at USNA( we heard story that only a handful came off the waitlist that year). He flew to Colorado Springs for a look-see and fell in love with the place. Fast forward to today and he is a proud 2018 grad and in pilot training.

Looked through your post history and saw she attended NASS. I cant guarantee anything and I'm not informed enough to give you a solid answer but in my opinion, given that she hasn't been rejected, and has been put at least on the waitlist, she probably has decent chances. I'd say higher than 50/50. Dont quote me though
Sorry @Infiniduck the 50/50 is not even remotely close to correct. I get it folks are trying to help but NASS attendance means nothing! My guess at this point in time the majority of candidates are more than likely getting a TWE than an appointment. This is based on the past.

Pattern, any idea why the waitlist notifications go about before the final TWEs?

So does that mean all the offers are out?

NAPS/Foundation would be included in the number of appointment offers and class size determination, regardless if the numbers are correct/reflective of this year. Admissions already has a good idea of how many NAPSters/Foundationers will move on to USNA and if it changes, then they can pull from the wait list.
