I was informed last week that my request for a waiver was denied at West Point. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with appealing a waiver denial at West Point? Thank you in advance for any help.

Hi, this would probably be something you would want to discuss with your admission officer. Waiver appeals are rare but the fact that you want to appeal says a lot about your character. Contact your representative and find out. Good luck!

Did you have an official waiver request that was denied? Or did they tell you that they would not be requesting a waiver at this time? In other words... what is and was your current medical status on your usma portal.

Do you have A note from military doctor clearing you? I assume you have already provided all of your information to dodmerb?

I provided all of my information to DODMERB. However, my doctor was not military, but my current doctor is. I am attempting to appeal to include his input and some additional info that came up after my initial paperwork was sent to DODMERB.

No I had arthroscopic hip surgery and an osteoplasty of the femur almost a year ago.

Almost a year ago is a bit too soon.

What were the indications for the surgery? Did you have a femoralacetabular impingement?

So, not only the timing of the surgery, but also the cause(s) of the surgery would be why the waiver was denied.

The surgery would be almost year and a half old by the time R-day started. Additionally, the surgery corrected the impingement. Additionally, I know that while each service academy and branch has its own standards for a waiver, however, I was granted a waiver for Army ROTC in November. The waiver was granted less than a year after surgery.

The granting of a waiver is up to the commissioning authority. AROTC and USMA can, and often do, reach different decisions. It may be because only a certain number of waivers may be granted for a given condition by the commissioning authority (as I understand it).
