I just got a letter on my portal this morning stating that my medical waiver has been approved and that I am medically cleared for entry to USAFA. I've heard on these forums before that USAFA usually only considers/approves waivers for candidates that they plan to appoint. Should I expect an appointment soon? Do candidates with approved waivers ever get denied an appointment?

FWIW I am now 3Q and I have a nomination.

All candidates that are competitive and medically DQ are reviewed for a waiver. Just because you received a medical waiver does not guarantee an appointment. Yes candidates with waivers do get that dreaded rejection letter. However, how much the SA wants you factors into the waiver process. If they didn't want you, you would not have gotten a medical waiver. It is now just a matter of waiting on their ultimate decision. Best of luck.

I wouldn't necessarily go so far as to say the waiver means USAFA wants you. It means they are interested enough to see if you can overcome that DQ.

Now, it's hurry up and wait time.

What do you mean by "overcoming" the DQ? Was obtaining the waiver not, in a way, overcoming the DQ since I am now medically qualified just like most other candidates? Or did you mean overcoming the medical condition that DQed me? I don't think that will really be a problem, since the DQ was for a condition that I had in 2012.

Arghh!!! Doesn't anyone read or follow instructions. This is very important in the military and will be evaluated as Admissions reads your file.

I'll be nice and post it here, but this can be found on page 8 of your "Instructions to Candidates".

"NOTE 2: Submission for a waiver does not guarantee that a waiver will be approved. Approval of a waiver does not guarantee appointment."

I know that. But i've read on here from multiple people that "USAFA usually does not grant a waiver unless they plan on offering an appointment". Trust me, I've done all the research there is on USAFA. Sometimes you just want to hear from the people who have years of experience in observing/participating in the admissions process.

1. The fact that you were submitted for a waiver means that USAFA wants to keep you in the candidate pool.
2. The fact that you received a waiver depends on whether the doctors think your condition is waiverable. Every year some of those submitted for a waiver are denied a waiver because their condition is just not medically waiverable.
3. Every year those who have received a waiver are appointed or not appointed after the candidate pool is assessed.
4. Sit back and wait.
5. Good luck!
