My son is in the medical waiver process for learning disabilities, and the DoDMERB ROTC program site has a status of "awaiting receipt of remedial". What documents are they looking for? There is no cure for dyslexia or dysgraphia. That said they are both mild, he functions at a VERY high academic level and has not used accommodation for HS senior year, with 4.0 all hon/AP classes. He also took the SAT w/out accommodations. What is it we can send to satisfy this requirement? We are running out of time with May 1 college decision. If his ROTC waiver is denied on still in process his college choice is different. Thanks for any insight.

How long has it said that? They should provide a follow up notice via email and or portal with what they are looking for. Sometimes it take a few days. They may ask for medical notes or a consultation of some kind. Can he choose a school that will work with his scholarship, but still be a good fit if he doesn’t get a waiver? These things can take quite a bit of time to resolve, and if you are hoping for a decision by May 1 he may not have it.

Thank you - Not sure how long it has said that, likely a few days. Yes re: choosing a good fit if no waiver. I guess I was hoping that others here may have had experience with waiver request for dyslexia and would know what we need to satisfy the remedial requirement.

Just to give you a heads-up, full decisions on your waiver will more than likely take you way past the May 1st college deadline. Sometimes they can go fast, and other waiver decisions can take months.

Thank you. We just received 3 additional information requests.
1 - R239.99 One is for a signed personal statement whether he will use accommodations in college or not. So if you use accommodations in college are you denied a waiver? If he was to use them it would likely be extra time. He is interested in nROTC
2 - R251.27 all pharmacy records. We already submitted this during the AMI phase (pre waiver). why are they asking again?
3 - R251.22 all medical records. We submitted all the previously requested ones during AMI phase... but this code is different, so are they looking for specific medial records pertaining to dyslexia?
Thanks for any insight

Respectfully, I don’t think ‘we’ have the answers to your questions. I recommend asking his DODMERB technician, or whomever sent the inquiries. I would think there would be a contact for questions, in his correspondence.

Or? Just send again, as instructed?
