Waiver Candidates

DS got his TWE email today. The color vision waiver approval definitely got our hopes up but glad it's over and we can move on to plan B. Good luck !!

Does anyone know if having a waiver can affect what my DD will be able to do after graduation from the Academy. I want to be sure she won't be limited in her duties after graduation because the USNA granted her a waiver. Sorry if this topic has already been addressed. Didn't see anything. Thanks

What kind of waiver is it? Color deficiency will limit Mids to restricted lines or Marine grounds. All Mids will have a commissioning physical during second class year (junior) and the result could put limits on what is allowed.

Thanks for the reply. That makes sense. It's for asthma. She's actually never had it, but has to get a waiver and take a test because at one point a few years ago she had a single prescription for an inhaler for a cough. She has an LOA and a nomination. Just trying to get the medical completed. This stuff is crazy stressful!

With a LOA, all she needs/can do is to get the paperwork in order to let admissions decide on the waiver and be qualified in other areas. Based on what you have been reading on the forum, you are expecting it, correct?

Yes. We are expecting her to pass this test and assume she will receive the waiver. My definition for a reason to have a waiver is much different than the SA. I'm sure that is the problem. I look at it as we are trying to get a waiver for a condition that she doesn't actually have instead of the SA looking to be sure they don't end up with a Plebe that has serious issues. Just a long, stressful process. Thanks a lot for your input!

I don't understand. I thought a waiver meant that he would received an appointment?

A waiver does not equal an appointment. A waiver is traditionally initiated when a candidate is found to be competitive. There are over 3,000 kids who end up being 3Q.

I was very curious to see how the color vision waivers played out this year as they were handled differently. Sorry to hear about the TWE. Best of luck with the new Plan A.

She won't know what she is physically qualified for until the pre-commissioning physical that will be conducted 2\c year. This physical is much more in depth than dodmerb. Dodmerb focuses more on life medical history. The Precommissioning physical is much more thorough and will determine what qualifies or doesn't qualifies for. Color deficiency is the only waiver that requires an upfront agreement and understanding of its limitations.

Just a long, stressful process.
There was a kid who has a LOA got his waiver for asthma in JUNE last year. He was the last entry on USNA 2020 thread. Let's hope your DD will be cleared long before that!

DS mentioned today our area BGO coordinator said we have about 1/3 of the Class of 2021 hopefuls from our area still waiting for word on their status. Hang in there everyone.

Wait, so only 1/3 of the C/o 2021 appointments have been granted ?? Also what does BGO stand for?

Yikes! Thanks for that. Had a feeling this couldn't be done quickly. Just getting a pulmonary test appt will take a while and my wife is in the health care business. Thanks everyone. This forum is the best!

No, they said from that specific area only 1/3 have heard. With the latest batch of TWE letters I am guessing that number is higher. Can't speculate how high, but that seemed to be a pretty big wave.

Technically NAPS hasn't gotten their appointments yet and won't for a few more weeks. That is slightly over 200 appointments alone. Don't believe foundation has yet either. That is another 60+ usually.

Blue and Gold officer. They are like a USAFA ALO. You can google for more info or read the sticky at the top of the USNA page about the role of a BGO.
