Is a waiver denial the end of the road, or is there sometimes success with the appeal process?
My DS will of course lead the process I am just fact finding.
The dq is for astigmatism. His astigmatism is -3.75 and -4.0. I understood the initial DQ ( but through discussion with many different people thought there was a chance at a waiver). Thanks for any useful advice.

I am by no means an expert here, but my understanding is there is no "APPEALS PROCESS" for a waiver denial. If a waiver was requested by a SA or ROTC entity, then the Waiver Authority (usually the Command Surgeon) makes a medical determination, it is then sent to admissions for final action and short of hiring an attorney (which I don't think will matter) I have not heard of a "Waiver Appeal" mechanism. Normally it means the candidate is deemed NOT medically qualified and his/her application is closed.

There are some instances where a waiver will be denied by one entity (an ROTC candidate) and approved by another (A SA candidate). Also some waivers are able to be granted one year and not another, so it pays to re-apply next year. Good Luck :) Some of the military docs on here can probably answer better, but you can try and call admissions or the ROO of an ROTC unit and see what if anything can be done.

Thanks for your response, there was an appeal process listed in the letter he received so we obviously have followed the instructions as given, was just seeking any additional info. Thanks again

Well, that is VERY good news! May I ask which Academy has the "Waiver Appeals Process"?

Good! USAFA has a similar process😁

Thank you both very much. I was unaware there was any type of "Waiver Appeal" process, as our son related one of his friends was denied a waiver to USMA and was told after contacting Admissions that once the Command Surgeon makes a medical decision that unless Admissions overrules him/her it is done. Nice to know at least 2 of the academies offer some sort of procedure for appeal...:)

Actually no. The letter they provide is very specific 😁
