Well I just got word that the BUMED (for the USMMA) denied my daughters waiver for the Allergy shots that she was getting but stopped back in September...

I guess now the battle begins ??

:confused::mad::confused::mad::confused:

Mr. Mullen........................ :frown::frown::frown::frown:

I'm only crying a little bit.......

I'm so sorry to hear that:frown:. I hope the CGA's waiver work out for her.

I'm so sorry-

I feel your pain. I really, really, really do.

Look for the open window- It's there somewhere you just may have to plow through the weeds to find it. :eek:

We just got home from an appt with a Dr. at McChord AFB clinic.. they wrote up some stuff. got copies of her allergy testing back from 2004, and she has an appt with her allergist on the 18th..

This fight is FAR from Over, The windows are open and I certainly wont allow this to stop her from her dream..

I just hope the CGA isnt so silly... After all the Retired CG and CGA grad that gave her her CGA interview was telling me how he was currently getting allergy shots from the same clinic that my daughter goes to!?!

I really just don't understand it all, but I am sure we can weed thru it all.

sorry to hear that

Good luck with this. It is so hard to get my head around the idea of denying a scholarship/admission due to allergy shots. Every military medical facility my we ever received treatment from pushed allergy shots at the first sign of hayfever! Allergy shots were always what was ordered. Who knew this was the kiss of death for students? Funny thing is, I would bet big $$ that as soon as she gets into the military they will put her on an allergy shot series because it is a lot more cost effective than oral medication and loss of productivity from illness. Silly system. Go get 'em!! Best of luck.:wink:

J Collins, have your daughter contact her admissions counselor at KP. Explain the situation and ask if there is anything else you can do now. My daughter got a DQ because some idiot doctor wrote in her record that he treated her for exercise induced bronchial spasms. It was actually just basic upper-respiratory allergies and easily treatable. KP was able to tell her exactly what information she needed from her doctor to refute the DQ.

Good luck to you and your daughter! I remember all too well what a roller coaster ride it was.

Thanks all.. It was he admissions officer that sent me the note about the denied waiver.. he is awesome.. but of course this is the BUMED making the decision (Which we just cant believe)

With all the waivers being issued for other things (reading on this board alone) I was floored yesterday when I got his email... but I am doing what he suggested .. with an appt yesterday to the AFB clinic, and the 18th to her allergist at the Post hospital..

Don't give up

USMMA is awesome and really worked with my son to get his waiver. They are wonderful there in admissions, and I'm sure that they'll help you to overturn this. I was recently contacted by a person who was denied his waiver request 3 times, before eventually receiving it. Good Luck and keep us all posted!

if you dont mind me asking where did you recieve notification from. DODMERB sight?
Hi Hopeful, J Collins got notification through admissions officer. They are really on top of things at USMMA. Admissions officers really work hard to get people that they want for the Academy.

no it wasnt DODMERB.. they had dq her a few months ago..

this was the USMMAs waiver authority BUMED (the Bureau of Medicine) in Wash DC. (They do their waivers)

yeah Admissions officer got ahold of me first thing yesterday... which gave me time to get to doc yesterday and I knew before DODMERB was updated.

He is the greatest.. his email started with...

Mrs Collins, please take 2 deep breaths... Please do not hyperventilate..

LOL he knows me to well...

My daughter sent a couple emails this weekend to the BUHMED, and to a Col. in charge of the Allergy and Immunology for the Army... and I was in contact with Mr. Mullen...

Well they have re-opened her file!!

WOO HOO

Thanks for your help Mr. Mullen!

keeping fingers and toes crossed...

Are you referring to just USMMA or does this apply to admissions officers at all academies?

I love it!! You should have seen me when I first SAW a remedial letter. The same darn thing! lol. We have actually framed my daughters waiver- no- really- we did!

My daughter's Allergist just returned from duty in Iraq, and J has an appt on the 18th already :biggrin: (I am just so glad the Capt. has returned). We actually have the letter from the BUHMED specifically telling her what she needs to provide them with. :biggrin: so atleast we know how to exactly respond.

I agree KGRmom.. Thanks...

Fingers crossed for you!!!

Not sad....I totally get it. You hang on to whatever line is tossed your way. If you let go, you'll never get towed to shore. Hang on tight friend. :cool:

Happy Dance........................... :bounce1::bounce1::bounce1::bounce1:

Mr Mullen just called me to tell me that a remedial will not be required... as the documents I had faxed over took care of everything!!

late yesterday as I reread the letter from BUMED for the 50th time I noticed specific wording requesting information on "environemental allergies".
Her testing in 2004 clearly states she does not have any "environmental allergies" (very important words)

WOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOO so according to Mr. Mullen..
a Waiver is recommended!!!!!

before I even got the chance to finish this post.. I received an email from Admissions.. USMMA is back on!!!

:bounce1::bounce1::bounce1::bounce1::bounce1:

Mr. Mullen YOU ROCK !!!!

(but you are not done with me yet) :biggrin:
