My son received a letter informing him he was approved for a medical wavier for USNA. Does that mean his overall application to USNA is viewed in a positive light?

It means that his medical waiver has been approved--nothing more and nothing less. In order to enter any Academy, an applicant must have a nomination; pass the CFA; MEET medical standards or be waived; meet the whole person requirements/competition; and be offerred an appointment :thumb:

Dealing with the Government you can't assume how steps in the process are defined. My question is "D259.50 Waiver Approved - AROTC" mean my son is all set with the waiver process? Or does it mean its approved to be reviewed by the Surgeon General and he needs DXXX Waiver Granted"?

Looks like he's got his waiver to me. I don't know why the Surgeon General would be involved. :D

Robet -- For Army ROTC the medical waiver authority is the US Army Cadet Command (USACC) Commanding General. She is advised by the USACC Command Surgeon. (Surgeon General seems to be a term used by the Air Force). Your DS' DoDMERB Portal page should look something like this below -- it should show D259.50 "Waiver Approved - AROTC" . The code # D259.50 is the specific waiver approved code for AROTC. In the "Current Medical Status" line it should say "Medical waiver granted." I think you have your wavier.

Agency: US Army ROTC
Cycle Year:2014
Current Medical Status: Medical waiver granted
Code Description
DXXX.XX History of XXXXXXX
D259.50 Waiver Approved - AROTC
