Received correspondence named Waiver Request Status saying that I didn't meet the medical requirements but states that, "At a later date, if it appears that you will win a vacancy to west point or one or our preparatory programs, we will automatically reopen your file and consider you for a waiver."

However, a few days before I received that, I also received a File Disqualification that basically stated that admissions is unable to offer me an appointment.

Does this mean I still might have a chance? The Waiver Request Status document is a little strange because I never received that document after getting disqualified last year for my CFA.

I received a waiver request 2 days ago, will update you with my experience.

If, when your file is presented to the admissions committee, the committee finds that you are not in the range of candidates that would be placed on the NWL (national waitlist) of you are not a slate winner or principal nom. they may decide not to move forward with a medical waiver. It sounds like, unfortunately, this may be the case. As it states, if they decide you will be pulled back in to the process (USMA or prep school) they will reopen your file and process a waiver request. I would still confirm this with your RC. I think the file closure by admissions then triggered the stop on the waiver process.

Thank you, we figured as much- he had ACL/ MCL reconstruction September 29th. My son also got ROTC scholarships that require a DODMERB. So now we have a disqualification on file. 🤦🏼‍♀️

ROTC and Academy have different waiver criteria. Also, the condition itself might not be the issue but the length of time that has elapsed since surgery. DODMERB and the Academy like evidence of full recovery and time to return to all functional use. If it is more of a timeframe issue, you may have a longer period to re-visit DODMERB or waiver. Or, if they just want to see, let’s say - 6 months of “full recovery and return to sports, etc. - you might be good to reapply next year. Good luck!

A couple years ago, my DS received the same letter in October but won a 4-year AROTC on the 2nd board. Waiver request was automatically submitted on his behalf and was granted. Don’t lose hope.
