Hi, I was medically DQ'd for ADHD but waivers have been requested for the 2 service academies' I have applied to. On DoDMERB there has been no requests for me to do anything... is that typical? Should I be looking somewhere else that the View My Status? Thanks!

My DS also has waiver requests and nothing is reflected in DoDMERB. He received an AMI directly from USMA which requested specific documentation. USMA requested that documentation be sent directly to their processing. No communication from the other academies in terms of waiver requests. He then sent the same documentation directly to DoDMERB. The DoDMERB contact acknowledge receipt and indicated they would upload to his account. However, nothing in DoDMERB indicates those documents were uploaded. Based on communication with the DoDMERB contact, they indicated that nothing would change in his portal until an academy took action on the waiver or requested further documentation. The process is unfortunately incredibly opaque. I don't know if others have had a different experience.

My understanding is that assuming the documents my DS sent are in the system, all the academies have access to that info. Maybe (just guessing but have no idea) is that other academies do not then need to generate an additional AMI unless they need different/new information.

I do not know how to tell if the academies are doing anything actively with a waiver request.

My son had the same DQ and had a AMI that we completed and we haven’t heard back. The DODMERB site says under waiver review. Does anyone know how to tell if a waiver has been requested or should he contact the academies? So stressful. Thank you

I think that the service academies initiate the waiver process by requesting a waiver from DODMERB and that candidates can't request waivers on their own. But if the DODMERB site says under waiver review, it sounds like to me that the academy(s) have already initiated a waiver request for him? He may want to contact someone for more clarification anyway.

I think DODMERB makes factual decisions about disqualifications. The service academies review the candidates to determine whether they want to initiate a waiver review. For strong candidates, they do. The service academies make the decision to grant the waiver or not based on their needs, the type of dq, the candidates application, and I assume the competition on their slates.

Primary source is very helpful - go to DoDMERB home page and work your way through every menu item on the left, including Contacts.

DoDMERB is the DoD organization which determines whether a candidate meets or does not meet the military accession standard (Q/DQ), and serves as the information clearinghouse for DoDMETS (govt contractor) inputs, candidate inputs, etc. DoDMERB is not the waiver authority. Each pre-comm program has a waiver authority which evaluates DQs against the applicable waiver policy, when and if requested by the commissioning source.

“Under waiver review” generates a lot of interpretations. I believe I have seen Mr. Mullen, Deputy Director, DoDMERB, a regular poster here but who has stepped away to deal with the website outage and backlog, define that as the commissioning source has the DQ results and is determining whether it will pursue a waiver.

Has any one with "Under Waiver Review" on DODMERB not have to do Remedials / AMIs and simple gotten a "Candidate Qualified" on their portal? Not sure if that is a rare case.

I'm not sure if this exactly what you were looking for but my DS had provided AMIs for one academy and when he won the AFROTC scholarship within 1 week they granted the waiver without asking for further information. That was a very pleasant surprise.

Thank you. Interesting. Almost sounds like AFROTC was able to look at at DODMERB AMIs for SA. Wonder if that is the case and visa versa.

I believe that whatever information is supplied to DoDMERB is available to all sources. The same documents that USMA requested were used by USCGA to grant the waiver as well (i.e. was only sent 1 time).

Also, reminder that what AFROTC was able to waiver, USNA, USMA, USMMA, USAFA, NROTC, AROTC may not be able to. Each has their own unique criteria and mission sets that mean they don't all fit into the same mold in terms of waiver options.
