Want to change my SA rankings on MOC application with LOA

I am applying to all 3 SAs hoping to get an appointment to any one of them. I would accept an appointment to any SA if offered. Unexpectedly, I received an LOA from USMA last week which really was a surprise considering how competitive all SAs are. I know I am competitive but the LOA was still a wonderful surprise. I don't plan to rest knowing that nothing is guaranteed until I have the appointment, so I am still pursing plan B, C, and D. I have all parts of my applications done except the CFA, which I have been training for and will test in the next 2 weeks.

My dilemma is that when I submitted my applications to my MOC 3 weeks ago, I did not have USMA listed as my #1 choice. Now I am thinking I want to make USMA my #1. When completing the MOC's applications I really did not have a solid preference either way because I would accept an appointment to any SA.

My question is how do I go about changing my rankings on the application for my MOCs and make USMA # 1? What are the implications, if any? I can go to each MOC's office and ask to make the change on my application or should I wait until my interview in late November and inform the committee then? Two of the 3 MOC applications were hard copy submissions and one was completed and submitted online. I haven't told my USMA field representative or my RC that I am thinking of moving USMA to #1. When I did my interview for USMA, I stated USMA was #2. I am in close contact with the other SA's field representatives. Do I tell them of the LOA or do I just keep working hard and let each school's plan work its way out for me? Any guidance or shared experiences would be appreciated.

Bravo for the LOA. So I’m guessing the LOA was conditional on two things: securing a nomination and submitting an acceptable CFA. Anything else? If it’s just those two things, then the surest way to convert the LOA into an offer of appointment is to kick butt on the CFA and tell your nomination sources that you have an LOA. Just call all three MOC offices and tell the staff members overseeing nominations that you have an LOA and that you’d like to make USMA #1 on your list.

There’s no guarantee of a nomination, of course. You still need to interview and impress the panel. But if you’re truly indifferent about which SA, then I do believe this is your best route.

In the past (at least in GA), MOC offices were notified when candidates received LOAs.

NVURBAN. First if you believe your district is very competitive than it maybe wise to let your MOC know that USMA is now your first choice with an LOA. Send the MOC a copy of your LOA along with your request.

I would keep your Senator ranking as is since district nomination is more common than senatorial. Your MOC will not always get the LOA from the Academy. Did not happen in our district. So my DS sent a copy to his Congressman. They will be elated to see your LOA because LOA demonstrates a match to their Nomination in many cases. You will also get a chance to state your preference again during the interview especially in your case since you don’t mind to attend any one of the Academies. The danger in being so broad is that the MOC may give you a Nom to the Academy with less candidates from his/her district. So if you do have a preference state it truly. But I would not waste the LOA in the Nomination process because it is a guarantee Appointment with a Nom DODMERB and CFA.

Did you finish your whole application process? and then did you receive the LOA? (Besides the MOC)

Thanks to all for ongoing input and advice - keep it coming. It all helps. Other related posts on different threads are worth reading. To answer Johanna_21, my application is complete except for CFA which I am training for and will complete in 2 weeks.

Don't change USMA to your first choice if that's not where you see yourself next summer, just because you received a LOA.
If, after soul-searching, you have decided that you would rather be in The Army, then by all means go for it.
All you have to do is satisfy the conditions of the LOA, and you are in.

But if you really want to be at another SA, then wait for the LOA from there. It is not uncommon for someone to receive a LOA
from more than one SA. All the SAs know a strong candidate when they see one.

Food for thought. It's four years + five more after that. Land somewhere that you WANT to be.
