For any appointees that have AFA issued plane tickets to COS tomorrow:
CONFIRM YOUR RESERVATION TODAY! And bring your 'Special Order' paper with you.

My DD had her AFA reservation, itinerary in hand and I booked the same flights for me to go with her. That was all done May 5th. Got to the airport today at 7am, checked me in, sent off my baggage, and SURPRISE, her reservation was cancelled. By AFA or Windgate (their travel agency that booked the ticket), we don't know, but let's just say the trip did not work out as planned. Here I am in COS, looking at those beautiful mountains , and my DD is still travelling. It was a major hassle - I flew without her all the way, finally they booked her on different flights, after we faxed her 'orders' to the travel agency and they confirmed her appointment. Have you ever tried to fax something from an airport? The USO office helped her, only by showing her orders, because of course, no military ID's have been issued yet. The travel agency offered no explaination and our only guess is that they cancelled hers when I (independently) booked mine - same last name, picked the next seat even.

Okay, so hurdle #1 is overcome in 2 more hours. Bring on hurdle #2.
Good luck and safe travels everyone!

Glad to hear the USO was able to help. Enjoy the scenery it is beautiful there. Garden of the Gods Pikes Peak, oh yes....

Good luck, God Bless and God Speed

PS Tell her thanks for serving out great country

Travel out of the Midwest is a real mess today. Our son's 1:18 pm United flight out of Indianapolis was cancelled due to weather delays in Chicago (where he was supposed to connect) and it took us 1 1/2 hours of major headaches at the United counter to finally get him on the LAST SEAT out of Indy to Denver. A VERY BIG thanks to Wingate - USAFA's travel agency - for making this possible when all the airlines told us we were out of luck.

Wingate made it sounds as though there will definitely be some appointees arriving tomorrow as a result of the weather delays today in the Midwest.

The year my DS went, flights were canceled all over the country. A group of cadets from our state arrived together at about 11pm the evening after inprocessing.

It happens!

it's beautiful in Chicago at the moment but it certainly was an UGLY morning.....good luck to all on your journey.....know that MANY of us are thinking and praying for you.....

We definitely had the weather here in WI today too. Really bad this morning but by the time of my son's flight out at 2:30, it was hot and sunny. Starting again right now - completely ominous outside and can hear the storms in the distance and see them on weather.com! Just heard from him that he made it to COS and his sponsor's house though so that's one huge relief. Last night I was trying to figure out backup plans like driving to Minneapolis or Chicago or whatever direction was the best to get him on a flight!

So we spent 9 hours in the Indianapolis airport today and FINALLY got our son on an 7:57 pm flight to Denver. We tried but were not able to get him on a 3:30 pm standby flight.

His connnecting flight in Denver will land him in Colorado Springs at 10:07 pm local time (just after midnight our time). We have an outstanding USAFA class of 2004 graduate ready to meet him at the airport courtesy of the AOG bed and breakfast program.

He'll probably be tired, but he'll be there tomorrow morning! I wonder how many others are in the same situation due to the Midwest storms and flight cancellations today?
