Washington Post Oct 17, 2020 Article on VMI - "Black Cadets still endure relentless racism"

Care to share what axe you have to grind with the I...you love to post articles without any dialogue, except when challenged. There’s two sides to every story. Not here claiming VMI is perfect and has no problems, but would rather you actually have a discussion.

In 2017 politicians used the WAPO to shut down KP's sea term due to SASH issues and history shows the purpose was to push a personal agenda and their political careers. They did not shut down sea term at the state academies while in office nor at their next positions. Now WAPO is going after VMI. Is there a pattern here?

Yeah, there’s plenty of discussion I’d be happy to have about problems I saw at VMI. My problem with the article is that it rightly points out some issues, unfairly points out some, and fails to point out others that should be brought discussed, but they aren’t sensational issues....More broadly, rather than trying to talk about where aspects of VMI deviate from the ideals of the place and how to fix it, it paints the picture that there’s no attempt to achieve those ideals.

VMI17+3 - no "grind" with VMI, some of my best friends are VMI grads. As Hocky10 mentioned all media have agendas - never good to be a news item in the WAPO. Someone earlier posted a letter from the school on this subject and it is relevant to students considering a college to know what students on the campus are concerned about.

So that’s essentially my point, a discussion would be far more productive to applicants/parents. One of these articles on it’s own doesn’t really help anyone. If I misinterpreted your intentions however, I do apologize for that.

Sure - no problem.

General Peay and the team at VMI are doing outstanding work to address concerns about diversity and racism at VMI.

I hope VMI can get a word in edgewise in this Washington Post led media blitz. Today's article appears on the front page (below the fold). I suspect the majority of Northern Virginia / DC-area readers will take this article as gospel and won't question the veracity or sourcing -- that certainly appears to be the case reading the comments on the WaPo site. VMI has an amazing story to tell -- telling that story is very difficult right now.

@glen I think The reference is to your posts on the other thread you started yesterday. I don’t know you, but sure seems you are out to fry VMI. Which I also know nothing about. So if your intention is to only share information, it’s not coming off that way in the context of your postings this weekend.

See my post to the two moderators on another thread - I am making a point.

Keep it civil folks. No personal attacks. Posts without comment are certainly wide open to (mis)interpretation. These are very disturbing topics so some room has been allowed up to this point. No longer. Civil debate and discussion only.

@Devil Doc How's their coverage of Hunter's emails; above or below the fold?? Oh, who am I kidding!!;)
We subscribed to it years ago because of their excellent high school sports coverage. My wife still gets the Sunday paper for the entertainment, sales, and those kind of sections. I burn sage every Sunday before bringing it in the house.
